I'm interested in eventually becoming more versed in other HR fields, apart from recruiting and training. I've seen some certification programs for both specific facets like recruiting, as well as HR generalist certifications such as the PHR/SPHR. What I'm wondering is if anyone has ever certified with any of these, and if so how was the experience? Does it make a difference in your career, besides an extra line on your resume? Any ideas on this are welcome, thanks.

Hi Sean

Just read your inquiry on this.

Having got my SPHR back in 2007 I can tell you it was a good experience. The study materials from SHRM were first class and there were helps to prepare for the certification exam. More and more I see that this will be required for HR jobs. We will lose out to others if they have it and we don't.

The books are also good for practical reference.

All well worth your time and money.
