GenY unaware and the biggest offenders at electricity and water usage.
Apparently IBM did a study in the UK and found that:
1. GenY is completely unaware of how much electricity and water they are using
2. GenY is the biggest waster of electricity.
I find this interesting. With all the lecturing we get (yes, I mean GenX) about how GenY is so environmentally conscious than we are, how could this be? Really? What is more interesting to me, is that this article has not been picked up by most of the GenY bloggers. I say step up to the plate and take on your own, make the world a better place (and don't forget to turn off your computers at night. yes I said TURN OFF)

I would suspect that might have a little to do with (compared to GenX) a MUCH larger percent of GenY is still living with their parents (or the funding of their parents) and not paying their own bills. Being responsible for the energy / utility bills will QUICKLY change the behavior of people that don't pay their own way, but continue to be wasteful. I wouldn't say I'm into the "green movement" (at all)...unless by "green" you are referring to MONEY!! I became a LOT more conscious of lights being left on, thermostat settings, etc... once I was paying my own bills. Before that...I really never thought about it.
BTW...I'm GenX.

Excellent point! The good old days when your electricity was paid by the parents and the shampoo bottles magically refilled themselves.
I don't know if you could have paid me to move back in with my parents after college, so I didn't even think of it.

Every night my 2 yr old granddaughter and I watch the Noggin channel for about an hour (or two). In between the shows there's a charcater named "Moose A. Moose" who is teaching the little ones about conservation and "green". Turning off the 'puter is one of the thing he always mentions. Brianna is mesmerized by Moose A. Moose. I hope it sinks in.

I know this moose. You know, I think I learned more from School House Rock than any class in my early years of school. Cartoons are an excellent way of teaching kids stuff, for sure. Good point Maureen (although I doubt the 18-24 year olds in the survey watch Moose A. Moose or Zee)
