HELP- NEED MARKET RESEARCH ADVICE

I need you all's input, opinions or suggestions. I've been asked by a former colleague to help them gather some market research specific to career coaching/consulting business(as well as the competitors in those fields and their market share). I know there are firms that do it, but he does not want to pay. What would you all suggest the best route would be in pulling this data from MSN/Google, etc.? What would you all type in the search sections to narrow and retrieve this data?

Hi Tiffany,

Here's what you can try. On Google, run the string

site:www.linkedin.com "career coaching OR coach" consulting inurl:pub OR inurl:in -intitle:directory "Greater New York City Area" executive

Please note that I am only looking in one geographical area and have added the word "executive" to narrow down the search; perhaps you could come with extra keywords on your own so that the number of results is not too high.

I have attached a sample file with sample 40 profiles of career coaches and consultants (created by Broadlook Diver). I know you may not own the tool but this is just to show what info is available online.

You may want to ask your question on the Boolean Strings network for more suggestions.

Also, I think, if you ask a coaching question on Twitter and on the LI Q&A you may get lots of responses from coaches with their info.

I have met many recruiters who are trying to do this these days as part of what they do (for obvious reasons).
