There is no doubt good and bad things about it. I'm sure there are those that will claim the worst and best about them, but I'd actually appreciate a balanced view.

What are the pluses/minuses, what is it missing, is there an advantage, what's a great alternative? If a combined system works, which companies have the software to do it well?

It all depends what you need....... Need to do a needs analysis. No one can answer this question for you.
wish you the best
Jake,

To be honest, you are exactly right - there are great and horrible thing about the idea - but depending on your process, there are some good systems out there that would work for you. The first thing to really answer your question effectively would be to know what percentage of your work is more CRM driven vs. traditional corporate recruiting. For the most part, without knowing a little about your process it is really hard to make a specific product suggestion. Feel free to email me/message me and I can help you a little further without a full formal "needs analysis".
