Question of the day: How many searches can you actively manage on your desk?

Permalink Reply by Christopher Poreda on February 7, 2012 at 4:42pm Depends on too many factors to mention. You can work on far more if they are similar in scope.
In small market Saskatchewan where supply is far less than demand we allocate 3 to 6, $100K+/- compensation level searches per recruiter anticipating a 85% conversion rate. Generally, in this market searches take 6 to 15 weeks to close.

Depends on whether or not I want to have a nervous breakdown! When I was an agency recruiter, I would handle 5-8. Since I've moved into in-house recruitment, my record is 27 at one time (although these were all at different stages of the process so some required far less work than others). Typically, I have around 15 or so on the go.

Permalink Reply by Tiffany Nugent on February 8, 2012 at 8:47am When I was an agency recruiter, I never had more than 8 or so at a time. I've been in house for 2 years now, and my max was 40. I worked with that load, give or take 5, until we hired help, because I can tell you that 40 is too much, since they were all different areas. Now that we've added recruiters, I average around 20-25.
I would hope executive search and permanent placement consultants are talking about closeable searches.
Permalink Reply by Amy Ala on February 10, 2012 at 6:58pm Sounds about right - on the agency side I averaged between 5-25 depending on the senority level of the role. As a corporate recruiter my all time high was 45 - now I run between 15-25 with 10-12 hiring managers actively interviewing at any given time. A lot of personalities to deal with :)
