I am caught up in the holiday rush, glamour, turmoil, and joy.  Being a parent has been incredibly wonderful but also difficult because I want so much to give my kids everything but I can't.  For numerous reasons, I can't.  I am a single mom and have been for most of my kids' lives - this alone precludes me from having the money and time to give them all I want.  But also, I can't because I don't want my children to be spoiled or entitled or still living at home at 30. 

I have found that a fine-line exists between loving and spoiling.  And it isn't always easy to see that line.  But it is all worth it when my baby, a fourteen year old boy, kisses me goodnight and says, "I love you, mom."  Of course, he does exit the living room early, in order to text a girl or two until midnight.  God help me...

As the new hires get younger and younger, and I get older and older, my perception changes.  As it should.  What we gain has to balance with what we lose and how we change. And that is life...
