Tutorial Tuesday: Yahoo Linkdomain Search

  • Rating: 5 after 2 votes
While Google appears to be the search engine of choice among many sourcers and recruiters, Yahoo has a very interesting and useful search functionality that Google doesn't - linkdomain.

Yahoo's linkdomain search command allows you to search for and find websites/pages that link back to a specified site.

Why is this useful?

Well, it's useful because you can search for websites/pages that link back to specific websites such as Facebook, Twitter, and such - targeting groups and pages.

For example, let's say you wanted to search the web for results that mention CPA, accounting, association or organization, and that link back to Facebook:

linkdomain:facebook.com (association OR organization) CPA accounting

Clicking on the first result will take you to a page for the Maryland Association of CPA's:

On that page, you will find where the link back to Facebook is:

Following that link will bring you to the Facebook fan page of the Maryland Association of CPA's:

And now you've found a group of CPA's in Maryland:

Of course, Yahoo's linkdomain works for any site. Let's look for sites/pages that mention PHP, development, and link back to Twitter.com:

linkdomain:twitter.com php development

That search will take you to these results:

Clicking on one of the first page results, you can find this PHP developer, who asks you to follow him on Twitter if you are interested in his work/projects:

Let your imagination and creativity run wild - using Yahoo's linkdomain search functionality you can target and uncover candidates, groups, associations, and organizations on the Internet, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, or any site.

Wow, this is very cool! I've just been playing with boolean syntax in google. I'll have to try it with yahoo as well!
