My introduction to recruitment came through my U.S. Army assignment to the Officer Personnel Directorate (OPD) as the Staffing Specialist responsible for all civilian hires, promotions, transfers and terminations for all Department of Defense-Department of Army (DOD-DA) Branches based in Washington, D.C.  I also administered the Army Suggestion Program and Special Projects for the Chief of Staff-OPD.

Gleason from Chicago, IL I was assigned to the Pentagon upon my arrive to the Presidential Traveling Team when I arrived in Washington, D.C. in January 1972.  I transfered to the Officer Personnel Directorate (OPD) to do civilian staffing for all of the Department of the Army Branches.  President Nixon decided he did not want all of the operational divisions of the US Army based at the Pentagon, for security reasons (feared the occurance of what happened on 9/11 and didn't want all military assets in harm's way in one place) and moved OPD & EPD out to the Tempo Buildings near Fort McNair and then to the newly constructed Military Personnel Center (MILPERCEN) in Alexandria, VA - to the Hoffman Buildings.
