Amos replied to Tim Spagnola's discussion 'Question of the day: What is the most absurd reason a candidate has given you for not taking the job?'
I recruited a professor once from a big university for a public company, he was a specialist in his field (very rare background) The position paid 120K + bonus + perks. He was making 62K per year (no bonus, no perks). He turned the offer down…

I think Sandra is making a good point.  I just think people should be honest and work to keep expectations in place.  Other than that I don't think just because you go on an interview you have to accept that offer.  If Nicky had…

@amber I agree it's been my experience that most candidates don't start looking until they feel that they have exhausted their options. Most of the counter offers I have seen were a bigger surprise to the candidate than they were to…

I will tell candidates - (if they ask) how many people are on the shortlist. Hopefully it will lift their interview game up and make sure they are really prepared and not just the purple squirrel (i hate that analogy) needle in the haystack?.oy.…

So a candidate who doesn't tell you they are looking at several jobs is unethical and immoral. What if they didn't tell you until after they accepted the one you sent them on? Would you then have placed an unethical immoral person with…

@Sandra, I agree with the fact that anyone can pick whichever offer they want. In your example, as a recruiter (or a candidate) I think a person has to choose the option best for them. I don't even think the candidate HAS to let me know all…

As long as she's open and honest with both recruiters, informing them that she is also pursuing another job with another recruiter. Then the recruiters will also be able inform their clients in advance and they will be prepared for…

I love when we get into a job choice being a reflection of ethics and moral depravity, so here's my question. If Nicky had interviewed with two new companies, through two different recruiters, gotten two offers and decided to take offer 2…

@ Amos. I'm a headhunter too, but whether headhunter or recruiter I just can't condone unethical practice. I believe that everything in life is a choice. You choose to be happy, disgruntled or accepting things as they are. I would have…

Why Counter Offers Are Good (except for headhunters)

Posted on November 16, 2011 at 1:00pm 63 Comments

As headhunters were taught early that counter offers are bad and we need to make sure we explain to our candidates the pitfalls of excepting them. Obviously the time we put into a search can never be replaced or compensated for if one is on a contingent assignment. It might hurt our wallets more then our pride when they are excepted -  not all counter offers are bad, and some are really great for our candidates careers and…

Would you – and should you – put your mobile or business number on your LinkedIn profile?

LinkedIn has become a significant part of your job search strategy. So, we tried to write a lot about it, especially in the last few weeks. But this is an interesting question regarding how people make use of this increasingly popular professional networking tool. And we set out to find the answer. Are doctor appointments still the standard?

Some of the most tenacious recruiters I know can get candidates to meet a clients whim, last minute, for what ever reason.

What has been the weirdest/best excuse you've heard of lately? (might have even recommended)
