You almost got away with it

Ring . . . a call, right before the holidays.

Bio-Brain, this is Patsy. I wanted to let you know that we terminated your candidate that started seven weeks ago.  Call me, I'm on my way out the door and won't be back until after the first.

This happens. It's part of our business, and we chalked it up to a bad fit. We specialize in this area and had several people to call.  We could fill it right away. Although fall offs are not a happy occasion, since we are specialists…

HR on the Warpath

Posted on December 19, 2012 at 12:00pm 16 Comments

HR on the Warpath. Not pretty, and potentially dangerous. Like an elephant gone mad with no concern for damage inflicted on others or himself, this person is bent on destruction.

Short Back story.

Our client needed to hire someone who could be the director over several facilities. The position is new. We recruited several candidates. The candidate that they were interested in was currently making 125,000. 125,000 was the most this client wanted to…

HR OFFERS FROM HELL DEUX

Posted on June 20, 2012 at 7:00pm 21 Comments

Here's what happened next:

The VP of HR called me. She is,of course, a very professional and polite person. She knew the story because she had been included in the correspondence. Finally! I was talking to a professional adult. Things were looking up.

I didn't want to rehash the story, so basically I decided to ask if she would still like to hire EXEC3. I wanted to focus on something positive, and bring a happy conclusion to the…

HR Offers from Hell

One Company, 3 different but similar jobs.

We had 3 EXEC jobs.

We were given a salary range. We submitted candidates who were qualified, and within the range. We told all candidates to expect the mid range.

The professionals that we submitted for interviews are all working as EXECs for competitors. The jobs are in a remote part of the country, so we recruited people who either grew up there, or had a reason to move to the…

Hi Barb, thanks for coming on The Recruiting Animal Show. I had a good time except for that terrible problem with the sound in the middle of the show. It turned out that once cell phone was causing it. I should have systematically gone through every number. There were 15 people on the line and it would have been tedious but in the end we were off a long time anyway. If you search @animal on Twitter you can see the comments. And the recording is already up tho I will put an edited version on my blog to take out that bad part.

Wed Dec 4 NOON EST - make sure that you listen to at least bits of old shows. People will challenge you bluntly and there might be shouting and you have to enjoy that kind of hard play if you are going to enjoy being a guest

It was great to chat with you today. Are you on twitter? I'd be interested in staying connected and up to date on the topic of helping employers behave better with recruiters. I'd also be intersted in any forums or sites that you think host good discussions on that topic
