Peer Matching… Elevate Yourself?

I ran across TalentSpring some months ago and have been scratching my head ever since… Now, I understand the concept because TalentSpring smartly hired Common Craft to explain their product through videos In Plain English. Where I get lost is TalentSpring’s Secret Sauce “matching technology” and how it could provide employers quality candidates… Secret Sauce? TalentSpring’s secret [...]

The eHarmony of Jobs?

Is anyone else sick of all the “job matching” companies positioning themselves as the “eHarmony for jobs“? I mean are there really only 29 dimensions of a person that can be categorized and matched or are we following the same carrot on the end of a different stick? Seriously, if you need help mining resumes, finding [...]

Who benefits from Google and Indeed?

I've had a question running around in my head for well over a year now... What job sites use Google as their core traffic provider? So I thought I'd take some time perform some research, using Hitwise, and then it prompted yet another question... What job sites use Indeed as their core traffic provider? So I took some time and gathered the following one week worth of data from Hitwise (week ending 3/8/2008) and thought I'd share...… Continue

Job Site Traffic Synopsis: Super Bowl

During my time at Monster I was able to actually see the results of our Super Bowl ad traffic, whether it was good or not so good. But I've always wondered how much Super Bowl commercials really impacted other job board's traffic. Moreover what other initiatives they utilize to maintain the growing need for more job seeker eyeballs after the commercial h… Continue

Uncle Sam wants more Chad

Uncle Sam, once again, is not happy with our current one weekend a month (Army reserve status) arrangement so he's called me back into the active Army for a period of 1 year... or whenever he feels like sending me home. I started my Army career on active duty back in '89, went into the Army reserves in '93 and am now inching ever so slowly to my 20 year mark. I'll be stateside (Fort Benning, Georgia) for the d… Continue

Build Your Talent Pool, Strickland Style

Yes there are National skill shortages, but this national problem can only be answered locally. Every locale has its very own personality, needs, and in this case skill gaps. You weren't naive enough to think we could just start-up a national skill factory and answer the problem did you. The root of the problem is LOCAL and to answer this problem you can't expect national answers. Hard questions... What are you doing to answer your lo… Continue

The Chad was insulted that I didn't comment on his mention of me in his posting, eh?

But really, I'm the one who had a right to feel insulted that I wasn't mentioned in that video, Internet People. Even though, with that crappy music, I'm probably lucky that they missed me, eh?

And, contrary to what Chad says, I don't want any little kids to sit in my lap. It's too dangerous. You can get arrested for less.

No, I'm the guy at a family party who tries to get you to remember me by howling into the air and saying, "Can you howl like a wolf? That's how you rememer me. Animal! Like a wolf, do you understand ?. Just think of the werewolf and you'll remember ME, The Recruiting Animal. See? "
