Very helpful Gabriella. Thank you. That is something that has been flying around in my mind as to how this would effect and how to overcome. I will be going with some form of version #2 the suit and tie. A friend suggested that this could be the…

Awesome! Can't wait to see your book. As for the cover, they both look like the standard "corporate" images that pick out of a database. The suit and tie one may limit your market on selling your book. It wouldn't stop me from…

I think the suit and tie combo has been a bit overused. I like #1. I'm a visual guy who likes color so it grabbed my attention. I would probably change the color of the key though. Regardless of the color you choose congratulations on the…

Thank you...Maren, do you think it looks too masculine? I have had that comment by a couple of other individuals (including my wife). Is it relateable to the female audience?

Need Your Help - Which Cover Would You Choose?

It has been 2 years in the making now and my book is now only weeks away from hitting the bookshelves. The book selling giant Amazon.com will be publishing it which I am obviously super pumped about. The book is titled, "The 10 Key Interviewing T.E.C.H.N.I.Q.U.E.S." and is written for the job seeker on how to master the interview process. I have had great initial response and look forward to its release.Check out the two…See More

My Future in Recruiting

Are you kidding me? A trip to Mexico by January? Now that is my immediate future in recruiting! Here in beautiful cloudy Cleveland, Ohio this trip just might do more damage to my skin than necessary but my wife would love me for it.Over the past several years I have had the pleasure of learning the ropes if you will from several of today's leaders in the recruiting space. Since the inception of recruiting it has always been a phone and dream. Call enough people and you will eventually make some…See More

Yeah. Good comment Asher. I agree that Talent is the only thing that matters and how do we sort that out. On the flip side, I agree Trevor that we do get a LOT of inbound junk right now. Your comments are valid in respect to Resume Screening. Thank…

A good friend of mine explained how he evaluates companies or opportunities. For whatever reason, it stuck with me. He suggested that there are 3 things, Profit, Process and People. Usually in that order. As recruiters, we are in a people business…

I agree. This is definitely a minefield. Unfortunately, sometimes clients really don't give feedback. I guess the trick in our field is to take the "bad" feedback we do get and make it constructive. I've received bad feedback…

Delivering the Bad News

Posted on September 16, 2009 at 12:36pm 1 Comment

It is not always a time to share all of what we know.

Good Recruiters give feedback both the good and the bad. Have you ever had a candidate tell you that they sent information or went on an interview and never got any feedback? If you are in a tight niche market you will certainly damage your reputation if you aren’t forthcoming…

But frankly in can be a minefield

What makes it a minefield?

1. Possible discrimination.

2. Negative information came… Continue

Direct Or Indirect, That Is The Question

Posted on August 26, 2009 at 5:30am 0 Comments

This is going to be a post that will really be necessary to have a community discussion and feedback. I have had the experience to play in what I will refer to as the Direct Recruiting Marketing and the Indirect Recruiting Market.

Let me explain...Direct Recruiting is the action of calling a specific person with the intent to sell them on a job and get them interested in a particular position you are recruiting for.

Indirect Recruiting is the action of calling a… Continue

High Tide Raises All Ships - Where Is Your Boat?

Today posses an interesting time for all of us.

For months the media has been reporting how bad the market is and how unemployment and jobless claims are skyrocketing, that this bad and that is bad, the stimulus sucks and health care reform etc. blah, blah, blah. People are fearful, concerned and desperate. On the flip side, other people are absolutely slammed with work and may be the most productive they have ever been in their lives.

Hear me out on this...as an Executive… Continue

No Respect for the Candidates! Who is with me?

Posted on August 20, 2009 at 1:00pm 6 Comments

Where has the respect for the candidates gone?

I was trained in recruitment some years ago by the true old timers. The owner of the agency I cut my teeth in had owned this permanent recruiting agency for 30 years at that point. Same office, a handful of the original guys, ashtrays on the desks next to the phone and of course a phone book. No computers, applications or technology. Believe it or not you got smacked in the back of the head and… Continue
