First Round Interview? No, First Round Impressions

Preface: This post is written less as my opinion and more as a culmination of all the feedback (use cases) some four thousand high-end technology professionals have given me over the past three plus years. We are in one of the tightest, if not the tightest candidate markets since, well…forever. More open positions than qualified candidates and new companies sprouting up every day (like the dot com). That said, the technical community has maintained a very high bar for talent and experience to…See More

Erin Wilson commented on Ben's blog post 'Are cover letters still necessary?'
"I find this to be an industry/role/skill set specific answer. In the case of technology, where I spend all of my time, I have asked countless managers this very question and they NEVER read the cover letter of a software engineer.   That said,…"

Tracey Cress commented on Erin Wilson's blog post 'Be a Better Recruiter: Be Altruistic'
"The opposite of altruism is egoism, the habit of valuing everything only in reference to one's personal interest; selfishness.  So, I do not subscribe to Friedrich Nietzche's philosophy, Jennifer. Altruism produces more positive…"

Valentino Martinez commented on Erin Wilson's blog post 'Be a Better Recruiter: Be Altruistic'
"Chris,   I agree with your recommendation about recruiters being more altruistic because such behavior in recruiters will go a long way to dispel a lot of the negative perception of "recruiters" that exists with many employers and the…"

Chris Wallingford commented on Erin Wilson's blog post 'Be a Better Recruiter: Be Altruistic'
"You can call it "altruism" but it is just plain good business practice.  I have always considered a candidate as a client, just as I do companies.  You do not development long term relationships with client candidates by being…"

Be a Better Recruiter: Be Altruistic

I believe everything happens for a reason. That being said, my flight left that afternoon, my wife Kaella and I were off to New York (my first time). When the airplane lifted from the runway and Justin Beiber’s Never Say Never started playing, I thought, “…everything happens for…See More

Starting a Start-Up Technical Recruitment Office in Silicon Valley

On January 3rd, 2011, we opened the doors to start-up Jobspring Partners Silicon Valley. Day One we stood there, business partner Scott and I, taking in an open space of roughly 2500 square feet filled with new desks, chairs and white boards. It also came with a top-floor view from downtown San Jose overlooking all of Silicon Valley to the north and northwest. As the morning sun dawned on our new balcony, we watched a plane take off from the most technically advanced airport in the world, as if…See More

Hiring Managers: Say "'I Do.'"

Hiring takes time and commitment. Much like dating, momentum builds with each interaction until you reach a point when a pair decides to either continue on a path together or part ways. That, of course, is easier said than done. These days, with a recovering economy and competitive market, time is not something often found lying around. Chances are, you're part of a team that has hunkered down the past couple years and already works 50-60 hours per week. Or maybe you're leading a fast-paced…See More
