Well I guess it depends on where you're doing perm business. Tampa is very cut throat (at least it was when I was doing perm stuff) so there wasn't much camaraderie.

I'd say the only reason a good recruiter should work for a firm, is if they don't like to do (or aren't good at) business development. If they don't want to run a full desk, working for themselves is not the answer.

I find the buzz surrounding "social recruiting" kind of amusing.
