"Bulleye Michael. I have thought about writing something similar. I have in the past had managers that would say things to intended to help keep me grounded. One was "keep your eye on the ball" and "get back to the basics". These…"

"Candidate Presentation" - That First Impression!

Years ago when presenting candidates to hiring managers I was able to get the hiring managers on the phone and verbalize the presentation, create the interest and nail down the interview. At times I would get a request for the resume and agree to faxing it (remember those times?) after the interview was set. Most of the time though I was able to assure the hiring manager the candidate would bring the resume with them to the interview.Things have changed over time though and I have either lost…See More

Job Descriptions – Are they part of your ad content, written to your audience, and, “How are they working out for you?”

I got more involved in writing, editing and re-writing job descriptions when I worked in the corporate recruiting world than ever before. Since that time I still get involved in editing and re-writing. I am guilty of not always asking permission but then I may not get it, and, after all, I am doing it in the best interest of my client and candidate. So, what’s the harm? How did I ever get involved in doing what Hiring Managers and HR should have been providing me to work with? If you ever looked…See More

“Follow the rule candidates” – How you find them, or do you?

There is this candidate who sees your job posted and is asked to apply directly online for the position. The profile information they provide, their cover letter if they have one and their resume end up in your database and flagged as an applicant to your position. This could happen in a corporate or non-corporate scenario. You may get an email alert that you have an applicant, maybe not. In my corporate recruiting experience I did not. I had to go looking for any applicants who applied. It was…See More

"Thanks for the comment Marianne. I have a tendancy to agree with that as to me a functional resume can more easily be written to embellish and/or mis-represent the real value of a candidate than the chronological resume."

Do you "KIS" with your candidate's resume?

Posted on April 8, 2010 at 12:13am 8 Comments

I have been around the business for a long time. Early on and being far less intelligent, something debated to this day I might add, I was quick to use the resume given to me by candidates to present them to my clients. I did little to nothing to change anything on the resume.…
