There are other reasons, at times, why too many candidates exist, however, your point is among the top 5. And, there are many reasons for recruiting to be important. Sometimes, for example, a confidential replacement.

When There Are Too Many Candidates

Whether you are working in internal our outside recruiting, when there are too many candidates something is wrong.  The problem is that the job specs are off.  They are either interpreted and written incorrectly or given incorrectly.Too many candidates is an enormous time waster and has a numbing effect.  Great candidates can be lost in the process.  Many times great candidates are left without being reviewed if there are too many.  Filling a job is not necessarily recruiting and not all jobs…See More

I started Todd Kmiec & Associates in 2002 as the Independent Recruiting world was beginning to really develop into what it is today. We are, and always will be totally committed to working with independent recruiters.

At its core, recruiting is simply about finding the right candidate, not creating them. Our unique business model enables us to both cast a wider net and dig deeper into any industry. In the end, the more difficult positions are filled because of greater reach. With talented independent recruiters working for themselves, our model provides that greater reach. Every recruiter’s network is unique and every recruiter’s process is their own. By working with strong independent recruiters with various backgrounds, networks, and processes we expand our clients’ reach to fill difficult positions.

State of The Union and Other Things

Posted on January 24, 2012 at 2:42pm 1 Comment

Tonight we get the State of The Union.  I don’t care about the speech or the politics.  I do care about the actual state of the country. Here’s how I see the state of the union and a couple of other things.

State of the Union (Country) – Mature and overburdened with debt and a bloated political system.

State of the Economy (Business Conditions) – Pretty good, at least for the time being.  Recovered from the bubble burst and moving…

Nobody To Blame - Kodak

Posted on January 19, 2012 at 3:11pm 2 Comments

I love all of the stories about Kodak today.  Times changed and evolution of digital photography and the end of an Iconic American Brand……..etc….

The hard truth is that management wasn’t smart enough.  They weren’t as good as others they were competing with.  Kodak is a perfect example of a company that was put in a great position but the people running it were not good enough to evolve, to continue to grow.  Is there any doubt that others could have done tons more with…

It's a Candidates' Market If You Got Skills

Posted on January 17, 2012 at 4:46pm 0 Comments

We’ve still got high unemployment but it sure feels like a candidates’ market out there, at least for the highly desired candidates.

We’ve seen a number of positions lately where candidates are in high demand, and they’ve got options.  The sense of urgency is there for clients to schedule interviews quickly and do everything they can to land the right candidates.

This is always the case for unique and valuable candidates, but it has become more normal lately and is…

What's Hot and What's Not

Posted on January 14, 2012 at 9:25am 1 Comment

Strong business conditions for recruiting continue into the new year.  When we look at our Best Opportunities and New Jobs each week we see the same industries and types of positions we have seen for a while.

IT, Healthcare, and Heavy Industrial Manufacturing at all levels are still probably the hottest areas.  I heard from a client in Civil Engineering / Construction the other day…more layoffs and no real sign of things getting better.  We used to do a lot of work for…

“Todd is truly a breath of fresh air in this industry. He takes a very open and honest approach when it comes to his business and in the recruiting industry there is not much more you can ask for. I can always trust what Todd tells me and I know that he always has his clients, the candidates and the recruiters best interests in mind during all stages of the process. Todd’s ability to handle the needs of both his client and the candidate in a manner that results in a great experience for all is one of the many factors that set him apart. I am excited to grow our working relationship and look forward to future opportunities with Todd and his company. Todd’s professionalism, dedication to the job at hand and trustworthiness easily allow me to strongly recommend him to any client or business partner. Regardless of the role or opportunity presented to work with him I am certain Todd will make an excellent partner and will leave you with only the best of impressions.” December 14, 2009

“I have worked with Todd for over 3 years and am amazed at his reach nationally to find the best candidates. I have hired him to help one of my clients to find engineers, something in short supply in Southern California. He always comes up with the best candidates, even better than the local recruiters I have worked with. Todd is punctual and very responsive when contacted and stays in touch all the time throughout the process. He is a beacon of light in an industry full of recruiters who are lazy. I highly recommend Todd if you need a recruiter who is very effective and has a great network. He really works for his fees. Dan Curtin” November 10, 2008

“We have been working with Todd Kmiec since the beginning of this year (2008). We have found that Todd is very professional, and that he has a very strong knowledge of the way recruitng should be done. Todd knows his clients and understand what they are looking for in a candidate. He is very quick to respond to any questions and provides concise and clear feedback. When a candidate is in the interview phase Todd follows through so that all parties can be kept up to date and clear on the status. We have worked with Todd on several difficult to fill positions and have both enjoyed, and learned from the experience. We look forward to working with him on many more. November 7, 2008 Sally K. I have had a working business relationship with Todd since January '07 and have yet to see anything short of superior work ethics. I give Todd two thumbs up and a solid recommendation for those willing to establish a working relationship with him, you will not be let down. Mike Land Executive Recruiter” November 6, 2008

"Todd is someone that is very intelligent and works hard to get where he is today. I've had the pleasure of working with Todd since 2008 sourcing candidates for him. He's always available to answer any questions that I have and makes it a point to always touch base. He really is someone to know as he takes great joy in what he does. He's working round the clock to please his clients and does it all with a great attitude. I look forward to a great working relationship with him and will definitely always reach out to him for advice." May 7, 2009

"Todd is one hard to come by and rare to find. Over the years I’ve known him through our daily recruiting operations, he has never failed me, not even ONCE. He is 200% dedicated and expert at what he does. His follows his miraculous system with precision, insight, determination and perfection. He is one I’ve known with the most business common sense, openness and fairness. You can expect a lot from him but still not getting disappointed. He is truly one of a million, the best partner I’ve had. He sets the perfect example of what a model business partner should be. I can never say enough of how proud I am in finding him. I have no doubt that our partnership will be a lifelong one. I highly recommend Todd to anyone interested in partnering with him for any business activity." May 10, 2009

I don't always have a candidate for your open job orders but always conduct a

search in my files and "only" send if appropriate.  Would appreciate remaining on

Hi, my name is Kevin and I am the operations manager for a healthcare recruiting firm in Los Angeles, CA. I’m reaching out to you because you indicated on your profile that you were in healthcare staffing and possibly open to doing some splits. We have a lot of open job orders and offer a 50/50 fee split. Would you be open to discussing ways we could collaborate from time to time?
