Hiring for Social Media Skills Begins 2012 at New Highs

Now that we are more than halfway through February, we thought we'd review hiring demand for social media skills. It's been a while since we reported on demand and supply of this talent, and we wanted to see if it is still a prevalent skill being listed in job ads.During January 2012, there were about 13,000 job ads posted online that included job requirements involving social media skills. This is an 87% increase compared to the volume of ads in January 2011. Despite some declines in the…See More

Job Ads for Recruiters Bounce Back in January

During the first half of 2011, we saw the hiring demand for Recruiters increase steadily. However, at the end of 2011, we saw the volume of job ads for staffing professionals decline. We were hoping this was a seasonal trend, and that hiring would increase again in 2012. It looks as if it may be starting. In January, more than 6,100 jobs were advertised online – that's a 26% year-over-year increase compared to January 2011.  It is also close to the 2011 high which was seen in August 2011 when…See More

Hiring for Shale Mining Jobs Is Growing Steadily

A report released in December 2011 reported that shale mining supported 600,000 workers in the US and, if 'fracking' continues, is projected to grow to 870,000 by 2015. While this is a controversial topic for many, we wanted to take a look at how many jobs have been recently advertised that are related to shale gas extraction.Over the past 90 days, there have been just over 1,000 jobs advertised online that included the terms "shale" or "frack." This is a 70% increase compared to the same…See More

Hiring Demand – New York vs. Boston

We recently came across an article that compared the jobless rate for the city of each team that competed in the Super Bowl over the last 20 years.  They found that the lower jobless rate predicted the Super Bowl winner in 17 out of the past 20 years.  So, we thought we'd put our own spin on this and talk about Hiring Demand in the two cities that are home to our Super Bowl teams. In the New York…See More

Hiring for Supply Chain Professionals Ramps Up

Companies have been focusing more on their supply chain security as a way to prevent losses and ensure quality of their products – especially in today's global market. This is being seen all the way to the US government, which announced a National Strategy for Global Supply Chain Security last week. Companies that are focused on their supply chains are hiring along with this trend. Over the past…See More

Hiring Demand by Companies Advertising during the Super Bowl

One of the most anticipated parts of the Super Bowl (besides the half time show, of course) is the commercials. There's already been a lot of buzz about commercials during the game with sneak previews of ads being leaked online and anticipation from companies debuting on the line-up. With 30-second slots sold for a projected $3 million, did these companies hire advertising talent to produce these commercials? The 25 companies advertising during the Super Bowl that we looked at were:2nd Story…See More

Are Employers Looking for Candidates with Pinterest Experience Yet?

Posted on March 1, 2012 at 2:30pm 3 Comments

Pinterest is growing like crazy.  According to a recent Business Insider article, Pinterest is already up to 11 million users and is the third highest referrer on the Internet (behind Facebook and StumbleUpon).  With all of this growth, we were wondering if employers were starting to look for candidates with Pinterest experience.

We found that the…

Mobile recruiting is a hot topic in the human resources field and there is some debate on when – and if – mobile recruiting will become a more widely accepted practice.
