Samantha Lacey commented on Dave Thomas's blog post 'Women Dressing for Success in the Workplace'
"Dave, conversation and debate are all very well and good. But if that debate is only reinforcing or reintroducing the idea that women need a man to tell them how to dress (as is implied in your blog, even if by accident) then I'm not sure…"

"Something about this article doesn't sit quite right with me. I can't tell if it's the tone (somewhat patronising) or the content but it comes across as a little bit, "Women, know your place!" "

Applying for jobs is a dangerous business!

Posted on November 3, 2011 at 9:25am 2 Comments

Warning, contains sarcasm...

I've just been in a discussion with a couple of colleagues about how risky it is to apply for a new job. It would seem that from the moment a candidate hits "send" on their online application, they become a magnet for trouble.

Think about it. How many candidates have you have who have applied for a job who - after you clarify…

Would you supply via an RPO?

This is inspired by Jerry's blog on recruiters refusing to work through HR and the rant I had in the comment section. Thanks for the idea, hope I'm not copying!

I've been working through an RPO for about 18 months now. I came from an agency background, but had always been interested in taking the leap to…

A world with no recruiters...

My other half is a vocal guy. He will not keep quiet when there is something out there he disagrees with. Unfortunately, he does not believe recruitment is a valid career choice. He teases me about being in the recruitment industry quite often and this has not let up since I stopped being an actual on the ground recruiter and moved to the marketing and business development side of our business.

I have heard him say it so many times that I now have the argument pretty…

Is it ever OK to dump a client?

Posted on October 10, 2011 at 4:38am 2 Comments

A good friend of mine recently started out in recruitment. She's worked in sales before and is excellent at closing deals, so I knew she'd have a good chance at making a success of a career in recruitment. It seems though, that she's struggling. Not because of her ability, she's managing to get vacancies and submit candidates, but because of the work of her predecessor. The person who ran the desk before her, who is now a director within the company, seems to have annoyed and alienated some…
