A young couple is golfing one day on a very exclusive course lined with million-dollar houses. On the third tee, the wife slices her shot right through the large front window of the biggest house along the course. They walk up, knock on the door, and hear a voice say, “Come on in.” Opening the door, they see glass everywhere and a broken bottle lying on the floor.
A man on the couch says, “Are you the people who broke my window?” The husband begins to apologize, but the man cuts him… Continue

I’ve noticed recently many people adding VirtualCV to there list of online media to promote themselves. What is it? I hate when I get pictures on resumes, I think it’s silly (though that mindset can change tomorrow and probably will).
But this is different. It’s a way to add some pizzazz to your on-line brand.
VisualCV is highly indexed… Continue

I found the replies to my last post interesting...
Rayanne's comment went straight to my point; how many people have that negative view of "sales"? Yet, if we communicate at all - we sell. (see Sales Skills are Life Skills)
It is definitely not about "selling someone" and I understand where Ben is coming from. That being said, to lump all into "you Americans" is not exactly fair. I think Jim's point lends to motivation and persistence. Our solutions may not help everyone.… Continue

... (or for anything). It seems that there's a lot of interest in mastering one's skills to look for resumes and contact information on the web. Some people think that creating a search string is straightforward and all you need to know is AND NOT and OR - those operators you learned in college x years ago. Well, it turns out that just refreshing your mind about these operators in not enough. There are several ways in which Google syntax is different
form the "classical" Boolean search… Continue

Great advice.....especially if you type and think at the same time - vs. thinking then typing then thinking again. All good tips but IMO the most significant is not being reactive....where you could hurt yourself the most.

In an Op-Ed column in the New York Times, David Brooks tackles the notion of an emerging group in the United States that he refers to as the formerly middle class

It’s a ditch that is so deep, it’s really mind boggling how we are going to get out. The ditch I’m referring to is Detroit.
Though I’ve long since moved away to pursue a career in high tech, I have an affinity for the area that is rooted in a respect and awe that goes back to my childhood. The Ford plant in our home town was one of the biggest buildings I had ever seen and all those employee cars in the parking lot–wow, it seemed like they… Continue

I love the art of selling. LOVE IT. When I first entered
the field of sales, the one thing I quickly grew to
appreciate was the fact that anything I did to increase
my ability in selling also increased my ability in life.
Sales skills are life skills.
"There's a born salesman!" I have yet to read, or hear
on the evening news, of a lady who gave birth to a
sales person. Or an attorney, or doctor, or for that
matter an embezzler or swindler. Birth is… Continue
