Job Tips: Four Ways To Improve Your Cover Letter

Recruiters read hundreds, if not thousands, of CVs and cover letters during their days, so why not do them a favour and send them a concise, original and well-written cover letter? And the best bit is it's really not hard to do. Here's how:

Job Tips: What To Leave Off Your CV

CVs need to grab the attention of employers immediately, so don't be fooled into thinking that you've got the time or space to detail non-important information. Your CV needs to be well-written and to the point - here's what to cut.

When Candidates Have Discrepancies on Their Resumes...what to do?

Okay, so you have recruited just the right candidate.   According to his resume his credentials are impeccable.  He has all the required skill sets and vital experience in dealing with all the disciplines the job will require.   His references provide you with glowing reviews.   You have conducted background checks as part of your employment screening process, and your candidate emerges squeaky clean.  Nothing that is noteworthy.

Or maybe there is some kid stuff type offenses on…

What Human Resources can Learn from the Brutal NHL Lockout

Roller Coaster enthusiasts are usually bummed by the extremely short track, wishing there were more ups, downs, and mega insane twists. While we can’t blame a thrill seeker for wanting a longer ride, maybe roller coasters are just meant to be short and to the point, and not drawn out, exhausting, and detrimental to those around it.

The NHL, it’s players, league officials, and fans of the game have just reached the end of their own long roller coaster ride.  While the lockout…

Invest In Ourselves!

There’s no sense in denying it, these are difficult times economically. Unemployment is stubbornly high, our fractious government can’t seem to agree on how to address our economic troubles, the global economy is in peril, and every day brings more dispiriting news. Some argue that large companies, sitting on huge stockpiles of cash, will be the answer once consumer demand rebounds but how will it rebound with so many people unemployed and with wages for the employed stagnant or receding?…

Bill Would Ban Discrimination Against Unemployed In Hiring

Sad but true, earlier this year the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission had to hold a public hearing because of a disturbing trend: several companies, nationwide, had been excluding unemployed applicants from hiring consideration. Their ads specifically stated that they would only consider employed job candidates, using phrases like “No unemployed candidates will be considered at all” and “Client will not consider/review anyone NOT currently employed, regardless of the reason.”

How do I Recover from a Bad Job Interview?

Going on a job interview is nerve racking and I am certain dreaded by most professionals.  Where do the nerves and stigma come from?  Previous interviews that didn’t go well and the position that wasn’t offered, that’s where.

Think about it, you have finally gotten the dream interview for the job you have always wanted.  5 minutes in, things start going south and fast.  Stumbling answers, twisted tongue, and the sweat - the company can see right through you.  They know all your…

Duplicability Factor: Are you easy to duplicate?

This lesson is learned frequently, often dismissed quickly, and tends to be a major player in the success of any aspiration, service or product. Duplicability.

During my brother-in-law’s career path he reached a turning point that offered him an opportunity to gain a skill set that was very specialized, few have, and was on track for future expansion and demand based on the growing trend towards environmental responsibility and renewal. Did he have all this…

You've done more for me than any other Recruiter.....

“It’s ok these things happen, I’ll just continue my job search. You’ve done more for me than any other recruiter and I’m grateful for that” was the reply I got from Paul Smith (name changed due to privacy) when I conveyed the unfortunate news of his rejection by my client

More for me than any other recruiter ?? So what did I do that was supposedly different from other recruiters he met? cause realistically I had not yet placed him.

From the initial call, to our… Continue
