The nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office (CBO) recently released a report presenting mixed reviews for President Obama’s key initiative of raising the minimum wage to $10.10 per hour. On the… Continue

Okay. So only two people have actually gone from b-school to the President of the United States: George W. Bush got his MBA from Harvard Business School and John F.…

President Obama now on LinkedIn! Ten short days ago the white house invited LinkedIn to host the President in a town-hall style presentation and Q & A; yesterday it became a reality. The President was seeking out unique ways to promote his up coming job bill, The American Jobs Act. President Obama believes “we need to do more than just recover from this economic crisis – we need to rebuild the economy the American way,… Continue

Remember all those t-shirts and bumper stickers that had Obama’s face and simply said the word “Hope?” One might say he was elected because of that one word or emotion. Considering the state of our stock market, real estate and job markets at the time of the election, it made sense to elect the candidate that gave us the most hope. What happened to all that… Continue

The Obama administration will face an uphill battle delivering its promises on job growth. Replacing the 7.2 million jobs lost since 2007, will not be an easy task.
This battle becomes more complicated especially when the administration members take counterproductive measures, such as those taken by Lisa Jackson, chief of the Environmental Protective Agency. Jackson outlined a set of new smog reduction rules which will place a burden of $90 billion on private job… Continue

Unemployment is a mounting issue that continue to steal the headlines of papers and blogs across the nation, and the world for that matter. Jobs being lost, outsourced or simply disappearing overnight are every day events. Plants shutting down, companies closing their doors, and the most financially stable name brands we grew up with calling it quits are on the tips of our tongue. So how do we address this? The free markets that we have come to understand are the driving forces of the western… Continue

Yesterday I received my copy if the Inc 500 issue in the mail. Inc magazine is in my opinion the best publication dedicated to entrepreneurship. As I read the introduction it occurred to me that the CEOs of the companies on this list are today’s heroes.
There are other role models, and other inspiring figures from Obama to Lance Armstrong to Steve Jobs but who is really going to create the most jobs over the next few years. Who is manufacturing their products here in America and who… Continue

Enough Negative News
Don Schmitz / Human Resource Staffing
The news focuses on gloom and doom and I’ve heard enough negatives. So let’s add a bit of healthy skepticism to counter all the negative forces. Where can we expect the new jobs to come from in the future? With unemployment in Minnesota at 6% and national unemployment of 6.5% sure to go higher, everyone wonders, “Will I have a job tomorrow?”
According to the state of Minnesota, the medical device sector… Continue

I keep hearing that the current Obama administration is claiming they will create up to 3 million jobs within the next year or two. My question is, “how much of that pie can we expect to serve?”
If it’s mostly government jobs that are created, then we might miss out. If it’s private sector jobs that are created, then we could be in for a wild ride. I’m curious what others think? Which direction do you think this is headed and will we have the opportunity to be a part of… Continue

In a time when many industries are declining as a result of the poor economic conditions, it appears as though Government & Military jobs
are continuing to thrive. According to the December 2008 Milgram Report, this industry experienced a 33.63% increase in the number of jobs in December 2008 when compared the number of jobs posted in November 2008.
On the flip side, the report indicated that Military & Government Resumes… Continue

What’s there to be Thankful about during a recession?
For starter’s Thanksgiving is an American Holiday and it is OK to wish someone a Happy Thanksgiving regardless of their religion or race; there is nothing offensive or politically incorrect about saying Happy Thanksgiving. In fact, in the last week many people have said “Have a Happy Holiday”… Continue

Maybe everyone in the world knows this already, but it was just passed on to me this week-end. Barack and Hillary, yes, the democratic candidates for president, are on LinkedIn. I also noted that if you are a member of TopLinked, one of the groups within LinkedIn, you can send an invite to Barack to be networked with him. I don't know if anyone replies to the invites, I am sure it is not Barack sitting at his computer replying to the invites, but would be nice to be Linked with… Continue
