4 Reasons to Serve Your Company with Video Interviewing

Video interviewing does more for your company than reducing costs. While it is a great alternative to traditional interviewing, it doesn’t sacrifice any of the qualities of the face-to-face experience. Rather, it transitions it to eye-to-eye. The camera focuses on a candidate’s (and the interviewer’s) face and gives insight into whether there is interest in the position. With…

Metrics, Tools and the Screening Process

I have loved the term, “Work smarter, not harder” for a long time now. Not that I don’t appreciate hard work, but what I appreciate more is creating consistent and efficient processes that make life and work easier. I love when a task can be completed in less time and with fewer steps. That’s…

Some Things are Worth Repeating

A coworker of mine absolutely detests the phrase, "Recruiting is a lot like dating." She says it's cliche and trite; and she is right. The problem, though, with cliches and all things trite, is that they are true.

Background Checks Becoming Catch-22 For Employers

Should an employer conduct background checks on its potential employees? Should a recruiter conduct them on their contract candidates?

Well, on one hand, background checks can protect the employer from negligent hiring lawsuits, which arise when an employee hurts someone and the employer should have known they were a risk based on their background. If you are a recruiter who serves as the Employer of Record for your contractors, the…

Video Resume: Taking Another Look

Early February I posted a blog entry called “To Video or Not to Video? Resume video’s are they going to help or hinder?” and it sure did get some feedback. It also brought me to another mind-set on how video recruiting should really be handled. And of course the world has a funny way of connecting people and organizations that share…

To Video or Not to Video? Resume Videos are they going to help or hinder?

Back in 2003 while reviewing submitted hardcopy resumes, there were a number of new submissions that came in with mini-CD disks. Unsure as to what they really were, and concerned of potential viruses our IT department scanned them and once given the approval it was my turn to check them out. To my surprise they simply held the soft-copy of the documents that had been submitted – ok thanks but not needed.

During the Global Career Brainstorming Day (held Dec. 3, 2010) and at…

The Interview Experience

Even as the economy crumbles and more companies lay off their workers, it is more critical than ever to sharpen the interview process in your company. Candidates today are more cautious, and less likely to leave the companies they are with. The ones actively looking are talking with a number of companies and have screening experiences to compare.

I recently went in for an interview with a staffing organization about a month ago. They came across my information and asked me if I was… Continue
