Firms helping firms: a collaborative network

Whether referred to as splits or recruiter networks, there has been scattered buzz around the true value of agency to agency collaboration in the staffing and recruiting industry and the quality of supporting tools out there.

After meeting with a significant number of agency recruiting professionals over the past several months, I’ve generated the following takeaways:…

Two Tribes – The Battle for Respect (or handbags at dawn!)

I think we will all agree that Inhouse Recruiters (IHR) and suppliers don’t always see eye-to-eye, in the majority of cases I would say that we might as well be in a different markets, who’d have thought we are all in recruitment! The biggest rift is in the non-relationship between agencies and theirs customers, which…

GenY Free Agency & The Dangers of Social Media

Generation Y has had many descriptors placed upon them: digital natives, entitled, world-changers, ambitious, lazy, and impatient. These descriptors, the changing nature of the employment contract, and the lack of quality information about an organization prior to hire suggests that many companies may be in for trouble with the group that naturally shares online with breathtaking speed.

We’ve already seen examples of the damage that employees can do to a company brand using the Social… Continue

Recruiting Process and its importance in this economy- we have to learn how to “do more with less” - just like our clients do every day.

A good recruitment process is very important for any company, but in more ways than you may think. The process itself speaks volumes about your company.

The important aspects to look at:

1) Which aspects of the recruiting process are important to you?

2) On a scale from 1 – 5, how important are these aspects for you?

3) How would you measure that the process is performing according to your needs, and how would you know that your expectations are not… Continue

Things I believe in the Recruitment Space

  • Human Resources people hate agency recruiters.
  • Agency recruiters hate Human Resources people. Now we're even so get over it and get back to work.
  • Corporate recruiters hate whatever Applicant Tracking System they are using.
  • Agency recruiters say they have access to the hidden pool of candidates but they work with the same pool of candidates that everybody else does.
  • The passive candidate is a…

Recruitment: size matters?

Golf scores, gas bills, Dr Evil's sidekicks...bigger isn't always better. Unless you work in recruitment, that is.

Take a closer look at any rec-to-rec's books or website, and among the straightforward consultancy and managerial roles, you will more than likely find a number of stealthily exaggerated opportunities. 'Worldwide Operations Director' may seem like a prestigious position, but why does it only require six months' branch managing experience? If you Google the employer… Continue

New concept (?) - No Cure No Pay Job Board

I've been recruiting non-Dutch speakers for jobs in The Netherlands since May '08. February 2nd, our new site went live, offering more advanced and automated features. I am now able to offer my clients a no cure no pay job board model, next to a classic agency model. So what does this mean?

Candidates and recruiters can sign up themselves and define their profile/job posting. Included is a broad set of match criteria to automatically match candidates with jobs. Furthermore people can… Continue

Recruitment, still a desirable career?

Imagine if Tarantino had never left that video shop - if Elvis’s parents had bought him a bike instead of a guitar - if Johnny Depp had stayed in school…Careers can define people; all they need is someone to point them in the right direction.

One of the major rewards of working in recruitment is getting the chance to be that someone; making a difference to your candidates - whether by increasing their salary, moving them closer to home, or cutting down their hours so they can spend… Continue

The staffing agency can be advantageous for several reasons....

Photobucket

The staffing agency can be advantageous for several reasons. First, temporary help through a staffing agency does not require going through the hiring process. The company does not have to set up tax forms, with hold taxes or extend any benefits to the temporary personnel. All that is done through the staffing agency. This simplifies the process a great deal…

Alrighty then.. I'll get active! Sorry oh RBC Community

It's not like I didn't want to be contributing. I'm glad you noticed though! It's good to be missed, although a little confronting, logging into my "My Page", weary from a long couple of days interstate, without the time or ability to feed my addiction of RBC, only to be taken to task for not contributing. "You have no recent activity. Why not start something?"

... sorry. OK OK OK I hear myself sounding like Joe peski (?) in Lethal Weapon

The last few days have not been… Continue

Why do you lock Google out of your jobs?

The next episode in my series of blog posts about running recruitment sites that really work is now live on my main blog.

This time we discus why so many of you won't let Google read your job adverts? Clearly this is not going to help you get more traffic - quite the opposite.

You need as many pages in Google as you can get, all with great content that your job seeker might actually be searching on.…
