A health saving plan or account has the same features as a personal saving account. The only difference is that the money in a health savings account can only be used to meet healthcare expenses. The benefit, however, is that you can fund your HSA with pre-tax dollars. This means…

Labor Day. It’s almost upon us. It marks the end of the summer and beginning of the school. It’s a chance to enjoy one last hurrah before the cold reality of fall sets in. I don’t know if you’ve got any plans for the holiday, but I’m getting excited about a road trip to beautiful Madison, Wisconsin: visiting…

Caring for your employees isn't just the right thing to do, it can also save your company a substantial amount of money. Taking care of your employees results in less sick days, increased productivity, and greater engagement in the workplace. Almost 90 percent of employers assume when an employee leaves it's because they found a better paying job; however, this is actually only true in about 12 percent of the cases. Losing employees is expensive, and it can be time-consuming and expensive to…

Sometimes the position isn't the only thing that attracts the brightest and most talented recruits.
That's right, your business's benefits package might just be the difference between filling a job opening fast or trudging through the hiring process.
When it comes to new hires, here…

Now that you have decided to pursue a career in this Industry, how you got here is less important. What’s most important is what are you doing to…

As I watched the news the past couple of days, the newest hot debate is over extending unemployment benefits. The previous extension has expired, and the politicians - as always - are looking for a "winning" argument to score political points for the next election. It seems like the easiest thing to do for a politician is go around saying that the pursuit of happiness includes a free…

The president of our company and I were recently invited to attend a keynote given by one the 50 most influential people in business internationally and I could go on and on with all their credits but will reframe. She was asked what bit of information she would pass on to someone just getting started. I could give you her answer but that was not the point of this post.
The more I thought about her speech the more I thought how there is really little difference in those at the top…

Sometimes, the client experience can feel a bit like buying a house. I put forward a great candidate, they do a perfect interview and are offered the job. Client and candidate are happy. At least until someone else comes along with a better offer and lo and behold – that client has been ‘gazumped’ by the lure of a higher salary.
This happened to one of my clients recently, with the candidate turning down a role (despite already having accepted it) for the sake of a few thousand pounds…

This morning it was widely reported that the "unemployment rate" dropped to 7.8% - and that most of the drop was "the fact that many people simply stopped looking for a job." That comment is very disrespectful to unemployed people who are working harder than ever to find a job.

Salary and benefits are key factors when determining whether a job is the right one for you. But there’s one other component in the decision-making process that is very…

Recruitment is a fantastic industry to be in! In general recruiters love dealing with a variety of people, juggling different needs from different candidate and different employers and matching candidates with employers (both from a job description perspective and also from a personality/environment perspective).
Many recruiters started as professionals in another field, whilst just as many came out of Uni with an HR or similar degree and decided helping people find their…
