What is Vine and why it was made for recruitment

It’s being labeled “Instagram for video”.

Staying true to Twitter’s micro-sharing style, video length on Vine is limited (6 seconds or less), with use of the app designed to spark creativity via snippets of special moments. Vine says that the video posts are “about abbreviation – the…

The Candidate Experience is Interactive not Linear

Much has changed in the candidate experience since the early internet and classified ads days. Not only is it easier to track and capture recruitment metricsfor all the recruitment sources you use but from a candidate viewpoint it’s becoming less and less straight forward.

Let’s take a look back.  Early on when candidates apply it was a very linear process.  A candidate…

Create a Quick Response Bar Code for your Career Site

The Quick Response (QR) or 2D bar code has been in use in Japan for over a decade, but it is just starting to pick up steam here in the states. Below, I've tried to address FAQ about the QR.

What is it? According to Wikipedia, "A QR Code is a specific matrix barcode (or two-dimensional code), readable by dedicated QR barcode readers and camera phones. The code consists of black modules arranged in a square pattern on… Continue

Dress for Work vs. Dress for Interview

I laugh continuously at the tenuous debate over what to where and when reference work.  Is this the red carpet, are we attending a formal reception, do we need to know the dress according to what time of the day the marriage ceremony is?  It is simply another issue to add to the useless list (that is becoming exceedingly long) that are thrown on to the shoulders of workers across the country by mindless drones in corporate America that think up what is the formal dress code for their…

#1 Don't Get Drunk: Unless you work for Jim Beam then getting sauced at your company party is one of the worst things you can do to ruin your image. Companies are starting to limit drink tickets to two per person. There is a good reason why. If an employee gets intoxicated and drives home and causes some… Continue

Serve or Receive, But be aggressive.

I had a chance during the weekend to squeeze out some time to watch tennis. Apart from the obvious thrill of watching the sport, I did have an ulterior motive. Who has an ulterior motive for watching tennis, you ask? And what could that motive possibly be? Maybe it was the concoction of a few sleepless nights with this new brand of coffee I’ve been having; but to me, the match seemed like a competitive arena of recruitment. Now before you start… Continue

Should recruiters develop their own assessment tools or outsource the task?

A few days back, we ran a discussion on several social networking platforms to reach out to the recruiting community and asked them if recruiters should develop their own assessment tools or hire the services of assessment specialists. A strong majority shared the same idea – focus on what you do best i.e. understand the client’s needs, pool in candidates, perform pre-screening to generate qualified leads etc. and allow specialists to take care… Continue

Ready to make money in recruitment again?

Are you starting to make money in recruitment again? I don’t mean the nickels and dimes, I mean are you starting to make some serious money that you made earlier in this decade? If not then, maybe you should see how to reposition yourself.

The first thing you should do when repositioning yourself is understand where the economy is heading and what the economy will demand in the coming quarters. One of the best resources for recruiters who want to… Continue

Ten trade show attendee rules

I attend two or more trade shows per year. Most of the work (business development, recruiting and client service) is accomplished on the telephone, of course. But there's nothing like getting out there and meeting people in person. Both candidates and clients.

You can see what's happening in the market and people can meet you. There's a wonderful, energized information exchange during the compressed time of a trade show.

Because of my concentration on companies making… Continue

Quick... Take a Picture of that thingy!

RecruiterGuy Mobile BarCode Hey look, I see one.... and another... and hey, is that another one?!

Mobile barcodes - they're popping up everywhere. And if you don't know what to look for, you just might miss them or brush them off as some sort of funny little logo or aesthetic addition without meaning. If that's you... you're wrong.

Also called a QR…

Experts or Performers? Make a choice

Just last week, a friend asked a question about the way I classify employees with respect to what they deliver to their organizations. So I decided to write a post about it. When thinking about the candidates organizations may be interested in hiring, I like to keep things simple and classify them into two categories. Experts or Performers. Yes I know what your immediate reaction will be Hassan, don’t make things so simple because they aren’t. Yes, I… Continue
