Admit it, the big "O" stimulates quite a reaction

You clicked to read about your idol Oprah, didn’t you? No, expecting some other big “O” content… Well, then you’re on the wrong website, buster!

Badge of honor, source of pleasure, reason for pride, satisfaction to scream about or maybe just something to accept quietly and celebrate contently in your own mind. The big O in all of its glory. Whether solo, with a best buddy or as a group, it’s something we’ll all experience - if we’re lucky to last that long.

What, you’re not…

How is/are employable opportunities generated

There needs to be a healthy balance in satiating the population needs

Employment generation is a key factor,

would appreciate how do companies generate employment opportunities,

what kind of  employment opportunities are the majority attracted to, rather put this way what do prospective employees

look for when they look out for a job.

How can a recruiter facilitate an appropriate placement that match's the prospective…

An Opportunity to Work!

I lease a barn and acreage a few miles outside of town where i keep six horses.  I hire high school and college kids to do all the dirty and heavy work that i can't or don't want to do.  Since the mid 90's i have had absolute hell (with two notable exceptions) finding kids who would, show up or even call if they couldn't get there, do more than the absolute minimum and that not well, couldn't walk from point A. to point B. without supervision or a map to get to point C or showed any…

Has the Applicant Tracking System Failed Us?

The reason I ask is, nobody seems to be happy with the one they’re using. Having attended many HR and recruiting conferences and events, I’ve noticed a consistent trend. When I ask someone what ATS they’re using, I here, “Unfortunately…[insert ATS name]. The ATS name varies, but the sentiment is the same. It’s rare to find anyone who actually likes using his or her ATS. Why is that? Weren’t ATSs designed to automate processes and make the life of a recruiter easier? They’ve been around for…

What about all of the job finding on Facebook?

We've all seen the various social media articles, career blogs and Generation Y experts that repeatedly promote Facebook as a source of hire, venue for job searching and place to interface with employers. The following might help put some of that hype into perspective.

While this may not be the most scientific or comprehensive report, it does seem that there would be some validity to what these researchers found about millennials Facebook habits. New report…

HIRING GENERATION Y SERIES: STEP FOUR – PRESCREENING RESUMES FROM THE ME GENERATION

by Traci K and BrightMove Staffing Software and Recruiting Software

Sifting through resumes might be the least favorite task of any given recruiter.  It’s difficult not to review each resume while at the same time resisting that voice in your head critiquing each one.  Thoughts such as, “Oooh, I would not have put that on the resume”,…

HIRING GENERATION Y SERIES: STEP FIVE – INTERVIEWING MILLENNIALS

by Traci K and BrightMove Staffing Software and Recruiting Software at http://www.brightmove.com

Entitlement and informality are the words of the day. When you begin to understand the interview process for Generation Y candidates, these words may be circling in your mind as the reputation of today’s young professionals precedes them. Standard questions are bound to produce surprising responses, especially if you haven’t got a clue what you’re… Continue

HIRING GENERATION Y SERIES: STEP SIX – TRAINING YOUR NEW HIRES

by Traci K and BrightMove Staffing Software and Recruiting Software

The inevitability of the changing workforce dynamic is that, at some point or another, members of Generation Y are going to be a part of it. Whether currently on board or getting ready to start, Millennial employees require the enactment of new strategies to attract, train, and retain them. They are motivated differently, they learn differently, and they have different needs than any generation preceding them. Figuring out… Continue

Are employers balking at Generation Y candidates?

Generation Y is nearly as big as baby boomers, and since Yers started entering the workforce, this new cohort has been raising eyebrows. To be sure, your typical Gen Yer is very technologically savvy, resourceful, self-confident (uninhibited by the self-doubt of the older generations) and up to any challenge. They are creative, learn quickly and are not shy about contributing their opinions and suggestions.

But these revered aptitudes and attitudes come as a package deal. And the… Continue

Think Twice Before Hiring an Overqualified Candidate

Is the term “overqualified” code for too old, or too
expensive? Should an employer be wary of hiring overqualified people? The answer to both is sometimes.

Overqualified…

The harsh reality of redundancy (but how it can also actually make you a better, stronger person)

I still remember the feeling to this day. The gut wrenching feeling that comes with redundancy is unlike anything I had ever felt before.

It was the winter of 1991. I was doing pretty well at my job. Or so I thought. I was an Account Manager for one of the UK’s leading recruitment marketing agencies and looked after…

GenY Free Agency & The Dangers of Social Media

Generation Y has had many descriptors placed upon them: digital natives, entitled, world-changers, ambitious, lazy, and impatient. These descriptors, the changing nature of the employment contract, and the lack of quality information about an organization prior to hire suggests that many companies may be in for trouble with the group that naturally shares online with breathtaking speed.

We’ve already seen examples of the damage that employees can do to a company brand using the Social… Continue

Generation Bowie – the original flexible workforce?

“Every generation imagines itself to be more intelligent than the one that went before it, and wiser than the one that comes after it” (George Orwell)

“Talking ’bout my generation” (Pete Townsend, 1964)

‘Trying to forget your generation/I say your generation don’t mean a thing to me’ (Billy Idol, 1977)

I’m reading a lot of blogs lately concerning generational demographics, particularly looking at how the attitudes of…

My rant on PRIVILEGE

..Original Post..

We have all noticed HUGE changes in workforce dynamics over the years comparing generation to generation. Well here's a little story, hiding a rather large rant, I thought I would share.

I was having dinner with a group of friends back in March and as the discussion turned away from the failing job market and toward the… Continue

Where has work ethics gone??

I seem to keep hiring these “rock stars” who have great potential, but so far don’t see it for themselves!?! They all seem to want more pay with the slightest bit of success, which to me is their actual job. I’m all for praise & rewarding my staff for a job WELL done, yet, they always seem to want a pat on the back for the slightest bit of task completion. I could set an atomic clock by quiting time, however, starting time tends to be flexible & always 20 min. after arriving. I swear I… Continue
