What's up with Recruiting?

Interesting how you can actually learn something meaningful from very trivial conversations!

Now that I think about it-it’s nothing new because Jerry Seinfeld made a fortune from a TV show which was based on the subject of nothing.

Recently I had an interesting conversation with a friend. That brief conversation was about nothing special but it made me reflect on the changes that have taken place in the… Continue

Close Them Before the First Interview

With the up-tick in hiring, it is very unlikely that the candidate with the perfect resume who applies to your on-line job posting will accept not your job offer!

In other words, unless his is desperate, a top talent candidate that is actively looking is more likely to turn-down…

The Recruited Talent Social Media Strategy

Lately there have been spirited conversations in the recruitment world pertaining to the viability of social media as the replacement solution for job boards and traditional recruitment models. Basically the internet has a very wide reach and has become socially interactive, but most recruiters disagree as to which strategy is best for recruiting top talent. To add to that debate, many from the old school of recruiting have argued that relationship building remains the key in connecting…

No Longer With the Company

With trepidation, I dialed the telephone number and asked to be connected to a candidate that I’ve been

working with for the past three months. Upon hearing the candidate’s name and

without hesitation, the receptionist replied: “Oh, he’s no longer with the

company”.

As I hung up…

How Do I Get The Phone to Ring?

The telephone has become mobile, and it has transformed recruiting from a 9-5, to a 24/7 work day!

But it is also an irony that this effective device is vastly becoming the most overlooked tool in recruiting passive candidates.

The content of this blog post did not start out as a study; it started out as a mission of a fast start in 2010 and to erase some of the bad memories…

GPS for Recruiting Passive Candidates

Recruiting activities have been slow as of late and like most of my clients, I have become more focused on my own operating budget. Now that I have fully accepted that cost consciousness is the new normal, I’ve done my part and have successfully completed my personal and corporate tax returns. That’s right, I did it all by myself!…

The Resume - A Change We Can Believe In

It’s been a strange weekend. I went to see the new George Clooney film; waited in line and discovered that I went to the wrong movie theater. Now that I am back at home and with some time to kill, I thought this would be a good opportunity to write a new blog post. There have been many thoughts going through my mind lately with the wealth of new social media information that I have been internalizing about its application to recruiting and business in general. So, writing a blog post is… Continue

The Story of the Fisherman and the Recruiting Recovery of 2010

My friends, there is a huge ocean out there containing many species of fish, enough for everyone!

There was once a fisherman who was only interested in one type of fish. And that fish was the lobster. The reason why he was only interested in the lobster was because he loved lobsters. He knew where to find them, he knew how to catch them, and he knew many different ways to prepare delicious lobster meals. He had relationships with and belong to a network of lobster lovers; merchants… Continue

Old School Recruiting and Social Media

I got into a conversation with the guy standing on a step-ladder changing light bulbs while I waited for my wife as she browsed the merchandise in a boutique clothing store.

Being the old school recruiter that I am, I quickly discovered that his name was Fabian, he was the owner of the store, it was newly opened store in the area, and we were his very first customers.

The reason why I am blogging about this conversation is because this guy said a few things that has some… Continue

Searching For the New Recruiting Model

A few weeks ago I woke up in the middle of the night and it was obvious that something was weighing heavily on my mind. Actually, it was this free-to-fee recruiting business model that I read about on a LinkedIn group.

This new model appears very practical, it fulfilled a need, solves a career progression challenges and could possibly stimulate jobs growth and pull the economy out of this downward spiral.

But it was the perception and the lack of clarity on how to sell… Continue
