The Makings of a Great Leader

This past weekend I attended “Energy Leadership” hosted by iPEC, where I’m training to become a Certified Professional Coach.  Their website is http://www.ipeccoaching.com/ if you want to look into coaching or Energy Leadership.  The reason I wanted to become a coach was two-fold: first it would give me an opportunity to work with people one-on-one in a non corporate setting, and second it would give me an opportunity to add value to my existing…

I Love My Job and I Love My Company

Easy for me to say, after all I co-founded our company and thus created the job that I have. What’s not to love? The same could be said for most business leaders that I have met. They love their jobs and their companies for various reasons that have little or nothing to do with compensation and benefits.

But what about your employees? If asked would they say that they… Continue

If You Achieve HROE Will You Be a HERO?

In a recent study that was part survey, part focus group, IBM researchers surveyed 707 HR leaders of companies of all sizes around the world; 600 of them were interviewed face-to-face. According to IBM’s senior VP for HR, J. Randall MacDonald, “HR leaders expect their businesses to remain focused on two equally important goals during the next three years — the need to drive growth yet, at the same…

Some Tips for Finding Innovators

Bloggers Note: Some of my sources use the terms innovation, innovator,

creativity and “outside-the-box” thinkers interchangeably. I will do the same in this blog.

“Innovation can be defined as coming up with ideas that bring value to your customers and…

D M J R M

You probably thought that I just gave you my password to my CRM system. If only it

were that easy to remember. No, the letters above stand for something much more

valuable than a password. They stand for perhaps the most important question a

good business leader should always be able to answer. They also stand for the

one question every employee should be asking of their employer and should

demand an answer from…

The Way Things Are

From the film Babe:

The scene: Christmas day on the farm. The pig, the cow, hens, and Ferdinand the duck crowd by the kitchen window, craning their necks to see which unfortunate one of their kind has been chosen to become the

main course at dinner. On the plate is Roseanna the duck…

Skate To Where the Puck Is Going

As our knowledge and learning about Social Recruiting continues to evolve, it might be tempting to simply try to mimic the success of the emerging case studies. However, these case studies should be used not as turn-by-turn directions but more strategically as the foundation for future success. As Wayne Gretzky famously described his hockey strategy, “I skate to where the puck is going, not where it has been.” For someone described as the best hockey player of all time, despite being…

Serena Williams Episode during US Open; Talent vs. Values

It was US Open 2009 in Flushing Meadows a couple of weeks ago when I got to see Serena Williams yell and scream at the lines umpire for calling a foot fault. Serena threatened the lines umpire with profanity laced tirade waving her racquet and was eventually thrown out of the US Open for her behavior leaving Kim Clijsters to not only win the semis but also the finals against Wozniacki. What left me aghast was the attitude of a very talented world… Continue

Leaders who SHARE and CARE

In a world filled with CEOs who pilfer their company's coffins for their personal interests, there are a few like Leonard Abess Jr., CEO of City National Bank of Florida whose recent action embodies the concept of ultimate leadership. When a Spanish bank bought into 83% of Leonard's bank recently, Leonard and his executives made a pile of dough like most executives do during a successful financial transaction. However, the similarities with most executives stop right there. Leonard shared over… Continue

21st Century Leader; Values based Leadership

In our lifetimes, many of us have had the opportunity to work with leaders who displayed great leadership values every day. These true leaders were interested in our personal growth, showed compassion to every team member and cared for the success of the entire organization. I am sure a few of us have had the unfortunate times of working with managers who we want to stay away from for ever. How do we identify the creme de la creme among the leaders that we want to work for? What do we look for… Continue
