10 earth-shattering things that happened in online recruiting in 2012

Hey, it’s the end of the year (almost) and time to take a look at what happened in 2012. Did anything? Well, actually, yes – quite a bit. Apart from an election, a (slowly) recovering economy, and a snazzy James Bond film, it did seem like 2012 was a busy year for online recruiting. Here are my picks for the most notable:…

It’s all mobile: Results from the 2011 mobile recruiting survey

Mobile is omnipresent – at times it seems as though more people are on their mobile devices that actually talking to each other. Butwhat role is mobile playing in recruitment?

This was the question I set out to answer a few months back. (Thanks again to my co-sponsor on this endeavor, AllTheTopBananas!). The survey, which was targeted at HR and recruiting professionals in the U.S.…

Are you thinking about mobile recruiting? Already doing it? Help me out

There's a lot of talk about the use of mobile technology and tools in recruiting - but not a lot of data. I'm hoping you'll help me rectify that by taking a short (3 min) survey - whether you're already doing mobile recruiting or not. Here's the link:

Job boards must evolve or die

Over a year ago, I wrote about the changes in the job board world. I also promised myself I wouldn’t write about job boards ‘dying’ for at least a year. Well, time’s up!

Technology, innovation, and procrastination

When you’re in the midst of working, it’s hard to stop. The work can be both addictive and rote – a deadly combination if what you really need is an hour or two of quiet contemplation. Thus, the three words in the title above can often work at cross-purposes, even though each has its place.

Specifically: technology is not necessarily the same as innovation. Let’s say that your job board is popular and well liked…

Twitter, recruiting, and job boards: round 2

A while back I examined the recruiting value of Twitter and its possible effects on job boards. Since then, Twitter has kept growing at a torrid pace, the economy continues to slide, and most job boards are happy if their revenues are only down 20 or 30 percent. I thought it was time to take another look.

Chris Russell created a very nice ’starfish’ that runs down the various social media tools… Continue

Randomness and recruiting

How can job boards even continue to exist? Because they connect job seekers and those who want to employ them. If a job board doesn’t do this simple task successfully, it eventually goes out of business.

But as any hiring manager, HR director, or recruiter knows, job boards are not the only solution. Why? Because the employment market is incredibly….random.

Think about it. If you’re a job seeker, you’re expected to know about the relevant job boards for your industry, the… Continue
