Starting out as a Corporate Recruiter

So when I first got started in the recruiting world, learning the difference between a corporate recruiter and a staffing recruiter confused me at first. Now for those of you in either one of these roles, you are probably thinking to yourself: How in the world can that be confusing?

"Sea of candidates"

There's a reason people associate used-car salesmen with charlatans. Cars went from a luxury to an absolute necessity, and with the proliferation of models, brands and personalization of automobiles, who's to know if the one you're getting is better or worse than an equally priced one next door?

Similarly, Software Professionals have gone from targeting their careers to sophisticated design of top secret military programs or higher education applications to being requested for pretty… Continue

Video Job Interviews: Remote trumps Live

The obvious use of Video in Recruiting is at the job interview itself, through Video Job Interviews.

Who are we Kidding?

Job interviews are starting to look a lot alike. The same questions are being asked over and over again and they are getting the same responses.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

What are your strengths and weaknesses?

There is nothing wrong with these questions, as long as candidates are willing to give honest answers and recruiters are willing to listen. Otherwise, it can become pretty hard to distinguish the… Continue

Structural Negotiations In Recruiting Sales

Cross-posted at StlRecruiting.com

I'm reading a book on negotiation, and it covers the importance of negotiating with decision makers. The example given is that of a car dealer, where the salesperson actually has no authority to make the decision on a deal.

If you've ever been annoyed when a car salesman leaves to go speak to the sales manager, it's helpful to remember that the salesperson isn't… Continue
