Question of Retainers

I need some feedback from you who have worked on retainers.  How do you ask for a retainer?  How much do you ask for?  What additional fees do you expect when you have made a placement? Thanks!

Recruiters: how to ask for a retainer

Last week we discussed the fact that most Australian recruiters are being paid on a "Contingency" basis when they are proving "Retainer" services, ie: they are putting forward a number of suited candidates for the client to choose from, but the client doesn't end up picking any and therefore doesn't pay ANY fees to the recruiter.

The return of the retainer

It's time recruiters fully understand the service they are offering their clients. Many of us are working on a Contingency basis (ie: only being paid for a successful placement, irrespective of who is put forward for the position); as we think this is what the client wants - in reality a contingency based payment is really only favoured if you are putting forward 1 candidate, if you are working for the candidates best interest.

Myths in Pricing Professional Services

There is an enormous amount of myth and mistaken thinking in the professional services arena around pricing and fee structures.

Where will I find you?

Three stores on the main street in town stood side by side. They all sold the same type of merchandise. One day the owner of the store at one end put up this sign:



ROCK BOTTOM PRICES



This prompted the storekeeper at the other end to hang a sign reading:



LOWEST PRICES IN TOWN



The owner of the store in the middle was thrown by these aggressive manoeuvres until he had a bright idea. He put up his own sign, which proclaimed:
