Employee Opinion Survey Best Practices Go Old School

There are various ways to deal with issues with job fulfillment. Some of them, like gamification, definitely take a contemporary strategy. But there is also a strategy that is centuries old which scientists are finding to have a positive effect in the workplace: mindfulness.

According to a latest content in Avoidance, mindfulness has its origins in historical Buddhist custom. Stating a research in the…

Which Client Is Your Most Important?

The one you’re talking to of course. Everyone knows this, right? Here’s the thing – I had an epiphany today and it kinda hurt. I was talking with one of my agency partners and offered to send his boss an email to give him some props – he’d sent some great people and really helped me out in the past few weeks. As it turns out he’s up for a promotion so it was very timely. As I was drafting this email and congratulating myself on being such a nice client, I realized why I like this…

It Takes a Village: Employee Engagement; Is it Important?

Poor HR, employee engagement is their responsibility, yet it is definitely one of those things that cannot be done alone. Employee Engagement is one of those things that companies really struggle with when it comes to prioritizing, surveying, implementing and monitoring effectiveness; why? Well it is overwhelming. When we think about engaging our employees and our teams we want to be sure that we have all of the pieces together, we want it to be successful and repeatable and there are a lot…

Satisfaction Guarenteed

Right off the top, no, I didn’t just swear. These two words are thrown around daily under a multitude of reasons; but how many people actually back it up or even mean it as much more than a catch phrase or cliché?  We all deal with people, either working with, or working for; and regardless of our job-identity; in one way or another we always defer to those two words in almost every close.  How do you guarantee satisfaction? Have you listened intently to the customer or to the supervisor and…

The Marcus Effect: Finding Satisfaction and Value in any Job

How does one find value in their job? That is a question that has been studied, analyzed and reported on for hundreds of years. As the scope and look of jobs change, the variables of work change, but the one

common denominator will always be the same: You/Employee/Associate/Team

Member…..

Is value measured by ROI? Is it measured by your salary? Perhaps by the performance results in your assessment? For some it is a commission check while others find value…

The Satisfaction Trap

While gratitude for current circumstances and successes is prudent, being satisfied is quicksand for recruiting professionals. Satisfaction becomes a trap that keeps you cemented to your doorstep and allows your competitors to grab more market share. I asked a recent workshop participant, who was resistant to ideas for enhancing her business, if she was satisfied with her current business model and she replied, “Yes!” When asked if she was also satisfied with her… Continue

Why do people stay at the same job?

I am always curious what makes someone stay in the same job for more than a few years. For me, it is passion, challenge, and the chance to be rewarded for being very good at what I do. That is why I run an agency, and that is why I like what I do. But I have to trade off team work (sometimes I am solo, sometimes I am not), and financial security (can you say 2009??), and I cannot easily specialize in one piece of the puzzle. That last one makes me tired some days.

But enough about me,… Continue

Impetus - what a great word.

Understanding what motivates individuals in their work life is imperative in order to really comprehend what makes a work force tick. Motivation is the drive or influence that pushes individuals toward success or failure. Inspiring or providing incentives help define the positive results of motivation. Degrading or force can lead to the negative side of motivation. Motivation is the reason people act or direct and is directly related to performance and, whether intrinsic or extrinsic, combined… Continue

One Bad Apple... Or... The Blight Amongst Us

Taking advantage of our recently gorgeous Northwest sunshine the other day, I decided to take a walk. As I started out on my three mile trek, I noticed a home that had a beautifully landscaped yard. The grass was green and weed-free, the flowers thrived in rich brown soil with plenty of sunshine, and there were decorative pots on the porch containing healthy looking plants. This was the kind of yard that made you want to go home and set your yard on fire, you know?

Except for this… Continue

Paying the Bills, Feeding the Soul

As I scrolled through the endless emails that accumulated overnight, one title caught my eye “Career Exploration: Paying the Bills and Feeding the Soul.”

As I opened the email to learn more I thought of the candidates I’ve worked with over the years, male and female for whom this message resonates. We often connect the nourishing of the soul and spirit with women but it is very much a need common to both genders.

When this need is fulfilled it can have a positive impact on… Continue
