The Art of ROI

Return on Investment (ROI) is that magic phrase that any service provider will coin in an attempt to justify that ‘investing’ in their product or service will result in the impact of a relevant business metric. I say this somewhat sceptically because while most HR service providers do offer tangible ROI, many are…

Candidates are Like Icebergs

In a recent HC Online article on Best Practice Recruitment the analogy of a candidate as an iceberg was used.  What you see or can glean from resume and interview is possibly only 10% of the total picture.

I was intrigued by this comparison (in fact, it was made by one of my employees), but on reflection am convinced that…

What do you know?: the rise of skills testing sites

If you hire people, at some point you will have to hire for a position about which you know absolutely nothing.  Perhaps you’re hiring a chief technology officer, but your background is marketing and sales. Or you’re hiring a new accountant, and you only understand coding.

What do you do? Perhaps you turn to friends and colleagues who are more knowledgeable than you about a particular skill set. Or you figure out which certifications a ‘perfect’…

Do Pre-employment Personality Tests Work?

I recently stopped thinking about recruiting software long enough to Google “pre-employment personality test.” The top result was “How to Pass a Pre-employment Personality Test” at eHow.com.

Which made me wonder if pre-employment personality tests actually do any good.

I’ve never been a big fan of such tests. Tests that measure actual…

The Legal Aspects of Reference Checking

Being in the business of predictive, online reference checking, we are assuring people that reference checking is not, in fact, illegal. There are legal considerations, however. We thought the below article

might help alleviate some of those concerns

* * * * *

Reference checking may be the most important element of a sound hiring process. Let’s face it: No one is better able predict the future performance of your talent than past colleagues. It’s…

Top 5 Reasons I love Recruiting Metrics: Reason # 3 Experimentation & Testing

Originally posted on the SmashFly Recruitment Marketing Blog.

I won’t lie, I’m in love with Recruiting Metrics! I’m totally enamored with them! I love the way they look with a big “+” sign in front of them, I love the way they look on my computer dashboard and most importantly I love the knowledge they possess. Overall,…

Excited about our feature printed in Recruiter

I had to share this with you all. Recruiter.co.uk has just ran a main feature about PeopleMaps' new product.

It talks about how Employers are able to receive unlimited access to a free online psychometric profiling service from PeopleMaps.

Now that's a very cool idea, don't you think?

White Paper - Staffing Waste

Most companies do not measure and report the complete results of their staffing process outcomes.

With outcomes obscured by reporting in percentages and with blurred lines of accountability, companies miss out on better profits and competitive advantage from poorly measured staffing processes.

This white paper invites the reader to consider four forms of waste common to the staffing process.

What do you measure?

Joe…

Interviews....how long is too long

I don’t have a job yet. I am not rushing to take any job. I just relocated and I’m looking to stay for a long while where I land. I write this as it currently applies to me, I would be very happy for everyone else if it only applied to me, but I doubt that it does. Unfortunately, what I am finding right now is the interview process is so drawn out that it is almost impossible to keep up the momentum and I’m sure some candidates would feel lukewarm by the time they receive an offer, if they… Continue

Getting A Little Testy

You: Company

Me: Recruiter

Common Objective: Find X, Y, Z candidate

I know you, your company, your product line, and your growth objectives. We've done business together for a long time; I don't want to overstate things, but we "know" things about each other. So when you entrust a key corporate position to me to fill, I appreciate it and you know I'm going to work my tail feathers off to get you the best candidate we can possibly find.

Dutifully, I… Continue

Hiring Practices That Kill Deals… or How to Avoid Faceplanting in the Net

In the early spring of this year, the flowers were blooming, birds were singing, and I began to plan my summer garden. The previous year was a complete bust for my container garden. Poor location coupled with an unusually cool and cloudy summer doomed my basil and tomatoes from the outset, and my peppers didn’t fare much better. Relocating the container garden to my back yard would afford it better sunshine (if there was sunshine to be had) and a location that would make it easier to water and… Continue

How Relevant is Employee Screening for Transport Companies?

It's outrageous to me, or better yet, that in this day and age, the idea of employee screening programs still have the lingering stigma of a subversive process. I bring this up specifically, b/c I manage a site that produces information, including products and services specifically for employee screening and employee background checks, and during my day today I found myself in a conversation with a gentleman that works for a company that… Continue
