I want to get my RecruitingBlog going. I realize that it will take some time to develop proper social media habbits, and actually set up all my RSS feeds and stuff. I tend to have a lot of things going on in my life both inside and outside of work, but I gotta make time for what is important to me, and I am super passionate about web 2.0. I dont think I can do a post every day, but am very inspired by the dilligence of some people like Rayanne Thorn, who do, so I am going to write a post once a…

So I had a really great time at RecruitFest! I knew it would be awesome. I thought I would have known what to expect, since I went to the Original RecruitFest, but I guess that’s the thing with unconferences, they are fluid, organic, and changing. Personally I love the unconference style of things. Probably because I don’t actually like rules all that much :P
The People...
There were so many new faces at RF2! It was really great to meet so many wonderful people. I was able to…

Today, in Susan Burns' Talent Talk Cafe, we were discussing the use of video in recruiting (advantages and disadvantages from both the candidate and the company's perspective).
Microsoft uses several blogs to attract, and share information with candidates, sometimes through video posts.
Here are some examples:

One week ago today, I was at the Grand Festival of Recruiting! I will never forget it, and want to share a few of my experiences from that day...
So Thursday night I was up late packing my things for a weekend away from home... I had planned to drive my car half way to Toronto and park it at a friends house, but I was running late that morning, and literally RAN to catch my train out of Burlington. I arrived at the InterContinental, still in my flip flops, with minutes to spare. I…

So I am back now from a 1 week vacation in BC. I have a lot of friends who live out there, and was able to do and see so many amazing things.
I started out with 4 days of yoga in the mountains, at a retreat on a ranch just outside of Prince George which is owned by my yoga centre. It was wonderful to be completely offline and surrounded by the beauty of untouched nature. The retreat was also kind of like a detox, since there was no alcohol, and all of the food was healthy. Actually…

So today was Bill Gates' last official day at Microsoft. All of the employees here at Microsoft Canada - Meadowvale were invited down to the caf to watch the webcast of his last day and conversation with Steve Ballmer on a big screen :) It was really cool to see all of my co workers sitting there watching our founder talk about the early days of the company, his vision, and what he is going to do next. Here in Canada and around the world, Microsoft employees are really feeling the impact that…

Hey All, I want to share an amazing thing that just happened to me. So I am riding in the Big Bike Fundraiser for Heart and Stroke on Monday 16th. I left it pretty late to begin my fundraising... I sent out an event on FaceBook to all of my connections asking for help to reach my goal of 100$. After I was done inviting my whole friend list, I go back to the fundraiser homepage, and it says 100$ is reached! At first I thought there was something wrong with the site, it seemed impossible to me!!…

I am a corporate recruiter for Microsoft Canada. Recently, I have decided to work on my sales skills, since I dont get toooo much practice on the job. You can imagine how the Microsoft Brand itself goes a long way towards attracting candidates to my opportunities.
A good friend told me about Jeffrey Gotimer's
"Little Red Book of Selling". I just started it, and am only on the first principle, Kick Your Own Ass! (because no one else will do it for you). I can already see how…
