It is without a doubt one of the most inspiring stories of triumph over a life circumstance that I have heard. Tonight I went and saw an incredible movie. Dolphin Tale - see trailer here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jdpg9NsgEaI
In December 2006, in…Continue

It is anyone's guess. In the wake of the week I heard many negative diatribes from Monday Morning Quarterbacks who think the US is going to hell in a handbasket. Among these important and tell tale moments this week:
1. A sad situation regarding a disgruntled employee who turned guns on fellow co-workers in my home town in Silicon Valley. It ended with police having to shoot back and eventually leaving the tragedy in an end with the gunman dead. The news media focused on this…Continue
It goes without saying - every move you make has the potential to shape your career for years to come. From time to time, when you are not looking for a new role - well curious folks come knocking on the door and try to lure you away. In these economic times, many of us have not had that happen for some time and perhaps, we go from place to place, company to company seeking a haven from the economic storm brewing all around us, even facing a unique opportunity or two, where the money may…Continue

8 years in and I have been there done that. Although much more is always still to be learned, I spoke with a former boss of mine - we worked together years ago at Venturi Staffing - this evening who still remains to this day a Selling Branch Manager at Manpower one of the largest staffing firms in the world. He mentored me early on in my days out of college providing the type of role model we all hope to have.
Since that time I have been through my own journey discovering…Continue

Recently Indeed.com a meta Job Search Engine and Job Aggregator revealed a Resume Search option - a gift for recruiters - which is currently free by the way - check it out here:

There is much going through my mind as we approach this weekend. Whether it is still the challenges of facing life or remaining steadfast I have to look at those whose lives were changed over 10 years ago. I am sure the healing continues, the hope needed must be renewed, and life goes on.
On that fateful day I was getting ready for my statistics test, and in Silicon Valley, CA, USA the world was just waking up to the knowledge that something was wrong on the east coast. …Continue

On July 4th, 2007, I visited the USS Hornet. Steeped in History, she sits proudly in the San Francisco Bay. On that day, we witnessed fireworks over the Bay with a wonderful daylight concert, games, and a fun family outing. The Hornet sank the Yamato, a Japanese supercarrier in WWII and recovered the astronauts who flew the first mission to the moon. It was here as I witnessed over the SF Bay…Continue

Unstoppable - its a mojo. It's a lifestyle. It's a commitment.
Everywhere I go, I keep hearing of folks who are wallowing in the mire of an economic malaise that gets their hopes up, and hits their resolve. There is an incredible song by the Rascal Flatts which highlights why being Unstoppable is so key. I have posted it as an update to my LinkedIn Profile....please view:

I listened to this song by the Eagles on my way home today, and for just a moment, I found peace as I realized, being comfortable in your own skin, is as much a part of success, as anything. A simple lesson really, but yet so important. Sometimes, people have thier opinion of your direction, be it small, be it simple, yet, learning to be still, and just patiently enjoying the moments is so vital and key to every momentous success.
At times, I can't help but be amazed at…Continue
This was the wise advice of an old manager of mine at Solutions Partners a few years back, when the economic circumstances hit close, after my hours were cut when the permanent job orders that were 70% of my employer's business at Solutions Partners became less and less in demand. It was on a bright and sunny day walking in Los Gatos, with Nathan North who provided such wisdom at the time, and said the economic storm will pass and "When in Doubt: Enjoy the Journey" - I couldn't help but…Continue

There is power in your direct network. In fact, every individual, every person you may come in contact with is a potential business partner. Don't get me wrong, you must tread carefully and watch your privacy and your very safety, but when one begins with the end in mind - career management, long term goals, financial considerations, filling new requisitions, and on and on and on, one must be aware how valuable a network trully is.
The larger one's network the more apt…Continue

The topic of the economy continues to be at the forefront of every discussion. Today, I returned from South San Francisco after conducting a workshop entitled Link-up to LinkedIn, LinkedIn Basics - advertised here:
As I met with great HR Leaders and thinkers in…Continue
It is without a doubt one of the most historic times of our economic windfall. Everywhere you look there is doom and gloom discussion, individuals getting overwhelmed, and political rumblings, and a historic downgrade of the US credit rating. The Dow dropped 600+ points, but yet there is still hope.
We need to look long and hard these days at giving individuals hope. Is there any wonder that the Recruiting/Staffing professional of today can be a powerful voice that gets…Continue

X - it's a variable that leads to multiple scenarios. In math x is the number or goal we are trying to uncover to lead to the balance of the equation, in life x is often the hurdle or problem, solution or scenario that gives life it's most interesting choices, options and sometimes leads us to do more research to look at past variables, and similar scenarios to uncover what may need to be done. In old pirate films, and The Pirates of The Caribbean or in popular culture, x marks the spot -…Continue

A few days ago I visited Belgatos Park in Los Gatos. Los Gatos literally means the cats. It is in this park where Mountain Lions, Deer, Bobcats, Boar, Hawks, Coyotes and a whole host of wildlife call home near the perennial Silicon Valley. It is interesting to return to nature, and view from a distance the downtown of the valley that has been at the forefront of so much change.
Wikipedia has this to say:…

I couldn't help but smile as I drove home today, blessings abounded as my belief in incredible possibilities in my staffing realm had all but hit me in incredible bursts. A 4 hire day. Something as magical as that I have had privilege of being a part of before in April, but to do it in this way well it was just a sweet little icing on the cake to a day I knew would end with some interesting moments, while I was sourcing the day away helping partner recruiters nail thier placements - my job…Continue
I loved "Field of Dreams" a movie that spanned so many different interesting topics and life parallels that even to this day I watch to put myself in a reflective mood. I have been thinking about the ever-changing, and ever-evolving staffing landscape - like a field of dreams - where individuals find their work, eager companies snatch up amazing talent, and vehicles of change drive life's deals and closes - not to mention an ever changing web and technology landscape. When my career began…Continue

There are different message boards, blogs, and think engines abroad these days out in the world of staffing. One we have grown to love is recruitingblogs.com. It is a wonderful place where we gather to think, write, share tactics, and in so many words harness a collective wisdom of what makes greatness.
So many things to consider in how we approach our involvement here. We the user community will be the important keys to ensure future success of this wonderful community. …Continue
This is a blog that has been waiting to get out for some time. There are many definitions about what defines greatness in this day and age - specifically about what makes for recruiting greatness - it is a topic that I find interesting. There are many definitions that one could look at, but at its fundamental core there is a differentiating factor - is it number of fills, is it ones grasp of boolean or superb negotiation skills, is it the ability to close difficult candidates, is it the…Continue

In haste I hurried home as I was late again after a busy day at work. New baby, new obligations, new changes and Voila - it's like everything moves and flows with the seasons and days. In the past few months each new change has brought an interesting perspective - how can I achieve what I set out to do, when momentous occasions in my career make me stand back and say - Wow! Did I really do that? As I walked in the door I took stock of what my familial needs were - challenges financially,…Continue
