As a person who still likes to think of herself as "young" in many senses - I am being forced to rethink my position. I came across this list of the "Mindset of the Class of 2014" (shared below)...

I feel a bit like I'm forced to move myself out of the "young" category - since I remember rotary phones and crank car windows!

How do you match up with the latest batch of college students you will be recruiting?

Most students who entered college for the first time this fall—the Class of 2014—were born in 1992. The Beloit College Mindset List® points out that among the members of the Class of 2014:

  • Few in the class know how to write in cursive.
  • E-mail is just too slow, and they seldom if ever use snail mail.
  • Clint Eastwood is better known as a sensitive director than as Dirty Harry.
  • Colorful lapel ribbons have always been worn to indicate support for a cause.
  • They never twisted the coiled handset wire aimlessly around their wrists while chatting on the phone.
  • They’ve never recognized that pointing to their wrists was a request for the time of day.
  • Czechoslovakia has never existed.
  • They have always had a chance to do community service with local and federal programs to earn money for college.
  • Nirvana is on the classic oldies station.
  • Having hundreds of cable channels but nothing to watch has always been routine.

Too funny! I have a son who's the class of 2014 from high school and they feel the same way. He actually just said this weekend, "What's the point of cursive anyway? Is it just a way to write without lifting your pen?"

My question is, why would any functional human in their right mind want to relate to the class of 2014?
