For the past few months I've noticed more and more self-promo stuff geared toward candidate enlightenment, job hunting tips, etc.
Do the posters have any idea what so ever this is a place for recruiters? Or do they come here, think "Hey - this is a great place to spam with my candidate BS" and post away?
Yes - I'm an old dog. Perhaps one of the new tricks I should learn is "How to get business by joining the job hunting and resume writing tips club and splatter said content all over hell" - and make tons of money. But alas - it won't happen.
Mitch Sullivan's posting earlier gave me reason to believe I'm not alone. While I am always one to welcome new members - and must admit I've not had as much time as I use to enjoy to hang out here - is it too much to ask new posters to "get a feel for the audience" before they post their "how to get a job" BS?
Right Mitch, throwing toys out of the pram is a bit sensitive but then so is screaming "personal attack". If you think being called out for what you write or how you express it is a personal attack then the internet isn't really for you now is it? and if you don't care what type of content people post..why challenge it?

Cool like a frozen elephant fart. When it thaws out it just goes Whoom and everybody wants to leave the room.

I usually skip all the content writen about and for candidates and look for those that refer to clients. That is why I first read Benefits of Using a Recruiter - I thought it was written for companies/clients - surprised that it was written for candidates. I don't see great candidates "using" a recruiter or "signing up" with a recruiter. Clients (aka companies) pay my fee and I work with them and they work with me. Candidates are what I find for them. Might be my practice is different from others - I don't advertise for candidates, I recruit them.
I've seen a more material aimed for candidates here. Too bad.
I've also noticed a shift here, away from conversation between recruiters to promotional posting targeted at candidates and like Jerry, I wondered why that was happening. While I still occasionally stop by here, I don't look forward to it like I used to because the water cooler feeling seems to have evolved away from that.
I agree that a lot of the content has changed to "Squak and Hawk" by job search coaches, career consultants, internet marketers and people who are looking for jobs. It is happening all over the internet more and more. I suppose it has to do with all the garbage being dumped out there about building your "personal brand" (gag) or blog to find a job or blog to promote your business. If this group is any indication of how well it's working, i would say it's not. After looking at one or two of the repeat offenders , seeing links to their website over and over i just skip them. I am also totally bored with recruiters using the activity status as if it were twitter , drop shipping links does not seem to me to be anybody's status unless they are just trying to get their name and face out there and call it branding. Lke 5 or 6 in a row several times a day. Posting pictures of kitty cats , I don't think so but that's why they make ice cream in 31 flavors so i just check out and don't come around much anymore.
Perhaps we as experienced recruiters should add more content if we want it to be recruiter focused instead of just bitching.
