CareerBuilder and Economic Modeling Specialists (EMSI) recently conducted a study tracking labor trends in the U.S. The study looked at which industries have seen the highest job increases post-recession, as well as the U.S. cities which have seen the biggest job growth in recent years.
 

The study also looked at the types of jobs re-emerging since the recession. According to the CEO of CareerBuilder Matt Ferguson; markets tied to energy, production, technology, healthcare, transportation and consulting have increased their workforces between 10 to 30 percent over the last few years.
 

Of course, this research doesn’t even take into account the hundreds of thousands of temporary jobs created since the recession ended. In fact since June 2009, temporary jobs have surged by 44.5% vs just 2% for nonfarm payrolls overall – with a higher proportion of highly-skilled temporary and contract positions available now than ever before.

1. San Jose, CA up 7 percent with 63,290 jobs added
2. Houston, TX up 6 percent, added 165,969 jobs
3. Austin, TX up 6 percent, added 49,131 jobs
4. Detroit, MI up 5 percent, added 92,407 jobs
5. Salt Lake City, UT up 5 percent , added 34,137 jobs
6. Oklahoma City, OK up by 5 percent, added 28,992 jobs,
7. Raleigh, NC up 4 percent, added 128,644 jobs
8. Dallas, TX up 4 percent, 128,644 jobs added
9. San Francisco, CA 84,014 jobs added, up 4 percent
10. Phoenix, AZ up 4 percent, 81,606 jobs added

Top 4 Re-emerging Jobs
 

In most states, production occupations are rallying after major job losses during the recession. The resurgence is seen most among computer-controlled machine tool operators, an occupation with more workers now than ever before. However, machinists, engine assemblers, and other production jobs are getting close to pre-recession employment levels
 

• Metal-Refining Furnace Operators and Tenders jobs decreased by 16 percent between 2007 and 2009, and increased by 16 percent between 2010 and 2012
• Computer-Controlled Machine Tool Operators, Metal and Plastic jobs decreased from 2007 to 2009 by 13 percent, and then shot up 14 percent between 2010 and 2012
• Pourers and casters, metal jobs decreased by 23 percent in 2007 to 2009, and increased by 13 percent from 2010 and 2012
• Engine and other machine assemblers’ jobs declined by 16 percent in 2007 to 2009, and increased in 2010 to 2012 by 13 percent.
