So, why are you an "Agency Recruiter"?

I am not a "third party" recruiter.  I was in the past.  I eventually found myself in the corporate role that I am in now.  Although I wonder how my life would be different if I had not chosen this path what are the reasons you do? Why an agency? I know the appeal is/has been money but are there other factors?

I like not being tied to any one industry or company.  If a company or industry faces a downturn, no problem I just focus on a different company or sector. I also enjoy the freedom to fire a client who is unresponsive, uncooperative or unrealistic.  Oh yeah, and the money is really good if I'm doing my job well.

I worked in corporate HR in Recruiting and other areas. There are more politics to deal with as a Corporate Recruiter. Also, as an agency/search industry Recruiter, I have much more freedom with my time schedule.

For me it is not only "why am I agency?" but also - why do I work for myself.  The answer has always been "freedom".  Freedom to choose my own clients, my own schedule, my own fee structure - and the freedom to make any and all other decisions as I see fit.

Frankly - I just can not see myself ever working any other way.

Ditto all the above comments for me. But coming from a whole different career in a large corporation, I can see the appeal of the corporate recruiting side. There are certain things each scenario offers, and every person hopefully finds what makes them most happy and successful!

Thank you all for answering. There was no right or wrong here just interested in career paths as I am often asked by folks why it is I do not add myself to the mix of agency recruiting. Great answers all!

I hate working with stupid, petty, territorial. Whiney, sloppy, smelly, ugly, lazy, pushy, know-it-all people with bad attitudes, obnoxious personal habits who gripe all the time.

Having realized how outstanding, smart, fair, gregarious, fastidious, high energy and positive I am there was only one thing to do..star my own recruiting firm. I still work all of those folks every day but I don't have to be a "team player". Ha!

The variety, although having read Sandra's reply, perhaps that's more honest and accurate.
