What does a company need to know to compete well for talent?

SystematicHR has some interesting things to say today about the disconnect between business leadership and HR analytics, and we've taken the conversation further on the Improved Experience blog. From my perspective, data collection without leadership first is a first class waste of time.

Jump into the conversation and tell me what you think. What does a company need to know in order to compete well for talent?

Inquiring minds want to know.

I really think the very first baby step is to understand the culture and what the plusses and minuses are. Coming from a marketing perspective, there are things you can capitalize on that mean a lot to certain groups and then you can develop your target markets (talent pools). I also think that HR or Talent Acquisition/Management needs to be more "tentacled". Not totally necessary to be at the exec table (although that is very nice) but have a "presence" in every department. I could keep typing forever. . . Great question Claudia

I know you will get tired of hearing it from me but retention has to be part of recruitment. I have no doubt that the recruiter, third-party or corporate that recognizes this fact and does their job with that in mind will make the right choices and incite the right conversations in order to further delineate the "right" talent for the open position.
Anticipating needs and what makes a candidate (as well as a client) tick is essential in this competitive market we love so much.
Ask the questions, gather the information.., and if you don't get the details the first time around, never hesitate to make a second call or visit...

he who hesitates is lost...

Let's move this conversation over to the Forum (where I should have started it anyway!). I'd love to get more input on the topic, and will direct folks to your video as well, Maren.
