listening to a certain satellite radio program this morning, one of the key players, who notoriosly sleeps through shows, fell asleep today. the show personalities made particular fun of him today and it was quite entertaining......now, my blog is not about the show, but it does bring up a great question, What to do with employees who clearly show up for work physically but not mentally?
I would rather see a manager send a person home who has not made the committment to be at work and be productive for the day than to see the person go through the motions. the negative ramifications a person like this can have on a team, sales or other, can be dramatic. the person clearly cannot have a positive impact with their clients or with their team.......
the best thing to do is to bring the person into your office, send them home and make a clear statement to the team that if you are not prepared to give it your all at the best of your best abilities, then do not come into the office. when the person returns to the office, setting clear objectives letting them know what is and is not acceptable is critical. teams, especially sales teams, need to see clear messages from managers/leaders regarding expectations.
