If you have a candidate that you cannot place, give them a gift they can use. Why? It gives the impression that you care and that can easily translate into more referrals. When I was running a full desk, I gave out an ebook of job search strategies to everyone I met with and encouraged them to pass it on. What happened? A significant increase in referrals. (It works!)
