How to source on the lesser known sites!! About.me

This is the 4th in the series on lesser known sites to source from.  As you saw in the first one we used x-raying to source, well guess what we are again and guess what it still works and it works for free.

The 4th site we will discuss is About.me.  About.me is a mixture site, meaning it can be used as a professional networking site but also as a social networking site. You can compliment people, collection, find people by location and interest and more. However for us sourcers the real key is the fact you can source out of it, but not from within About.me, but like the previous 3 using an old school technique called x-raying.

So to source within About.me you simply need to create an x-ray string, like the one below.

site:about.me developer

If you run the above in google you will get the results below.

Of course you can be more specific and add in a programming language and more, but you get the idea. If you need more info on X-raying see my blog post titled ”http://www.recruitingblogs.com/profiles/blogs/seeing-what-is-really...

For those of you who keep up on new things, you will know that About.me now has a people search feature. If we search for Developer.

Hard to say which is better their search or x-raying. I think with x-raying you get more info easier, but their search is more colorful.

Next week we will talk about BeKnown
