List of Top Employers for Entry Level Jobs Released

With so much media attention focusing on the national recession and other problems with the economy, many college students who are about to graduate are concerned that they may have trouble finding entry level jobs. According to a recent press release from CollegeGrad.com, there isn’t anything to worry about.

The website, which is considered one of the leading sites form entry level job and internship listings, announced the release of it’s list of Top 500 Entry-Level Employers for 2009. In doing so they also put out the expected percentage of growth in this area of employment.

CollegeGrad.com’s data calls for an increase in entry level jobs online that is the second largest the website has seen since 2005. Although the number of such ads expected is down 1.5 percent from last year, it is up 11.4 percent from 2007. Considering the state of the economy, this is a lot better than many would have expected.

On the list of top Employers for recent graduates for the year, Verizon Wireless came in as number one. During the course of 2009, the company plans on hiring somewhere around 13,000 college educated workers for entry level positions.

"The hiring landscape is ever-changing and provides challenges to the employer and employee alike," said Leighann McGinnis, Staff VP for Verizon Wireless, in a recent CollegeGrad.com press release. "Despite these challenges, there is a continued need to identify and attract top talent...College graduates are highly engaged, technically adept and compliment our culture."

“I want seniors and recent graduates to be aware that there are jobs out there for them, despite the media’s 24/7 hyperbole about the economy,” Rob Brooks, Director of Career Services for Mount Ida College, told CollegeGrad.com “They probably will encounter some rejection as they purse employment, but that is normal in any economy and should not deter them form their career goals. Focused effort, job hunting skills, persistence and resiliency will overcome any obstacles to their search.”

CollegeGrad.com complied the list of Top Entry-Level Employers using a survey where participating companies provided their entry-level, master’s and intern hiring projections for the year. The employers also provided the number of people they expect to hire from each major. The survey can be viewed at CollegeGrad.com
