More than words: 3 Reasons why music matters in your messaging

I've been spending a lot of time lately working on promotional / employer branding materials for the benefit of my employer. As part of this work, I learned that if you want to get a message across, audio branding - AKA the use of music as part of the message, is pretty important.


 


Here's why:

Remember the sound of Nokia phones when you used to switch them on? 
Doo Doo Doou Doo Doooo

Remember the sound when you switched on a Sony Ps3? 
Wuuuuuuuuuuuwwwwuuuuuuuu 

Intel Inside? 
Dunh Dunh Dunh Dunnn! 


According to boffins and researchers as well as industry pundits who have studied this, Audio has a stronger band recall than almost every other advertising format.

The main reasons for audio as a part of any online branding is:

REASON 1: It adds depth and dimension to your messaging, and vastly increases the chance of someone recalling it.
REASON 2: Music doesn't need a translator. It is in fact the universal language, just like love.
REASON 3: People increasingly make decisions based on feelings, rather than functional content. So as music is one of the number one drivers of emotion, it's definitely worth considering as part of your brand mix.

Since I've been using Audio in Sliderocket, I've become so attuned to the power of audio to help get a point across that I now literally switch off and/or stop listening if I'm watching a video or presentation without an audio component. I know it sounds crazy but it's true.
