Ok I have not posted anything for quite some time. Here is my dilemma of the day. I recruited a very sharp Technical Specialist with not only a Bachlors Degree in EE but a PhD as well. He told me the reason he is looking is the fact that his firm does not really support their TS going into to law school. I am going to be honest here. I did a presentation to one of the law firms that I work with and when the Partner ask me why he was leaving I gave him the reason but sort of glossed over the fact that the candidate is planning on going to law school.
The firm after reveiwing his resume said Yes!! we want to interview this candidate. Now I feel bad as I don't think I was as forth coming as I should have been about this candidates future plans. I will say that I thought he was looking at going to law school very soon and when I ask the candidate if he had taken the LSAT yet he said no. He is not planning on going to law school until the fall of 2014. Here is my dilemma do I call the Partner to let him know what the candidates intentions are in regards to law school, because I am sure it will come up in the interview and I don't want the Partner to blindsided and I sure the candidate feels that I have already discussed it with him. Do I not mention it since the start date for law school is over a year away?
I have always gotten great advice so I could use it again.
Thank,
Theresa
Comment by Amy Ala on January 15, 2013 at 12:42pm Plans change and 2014 is too far away to bring it up. Fall of 2014 is a year and a half away! Any number of things could happen in that time... if it was fall of this year that would be different, but seriously unless he's already enrolled and paid tuition he's not going to law school YET. I don't know anything about the legal field so I understand they may have different expectations but I can't imagine telling a client that someone might do something in a couple of years that might mean they can't work here. Women get pregnant, people move, change happens. Too far out to bring up I think.
