Changing jobs a couple of times in the last 2 years has made me really look at myself and my belief structure in this field, refine this, perhaps even formulate one (or two). I've come to understand what I believe in, when it comes to Recruiting.
It's not about just going to work, hiring people and going home. I think people over complicate things to (sometimes) justify their own existence, pad out their "personal brand", push their agenda or product, or suck up to "Recruiting aficionados". And please don't get me started on all those "Social Media is the greatest" conversations!
I've been able to break this down to a few key ideals which I believe in when it comes to this profession and what I do.
So what is it?
Dan's mantra.
What's yours?
In short, I have taken a simple philosophy from the popular japanese cartoon franchise Pokemon. "Gotta catch 'em all!". If I were to have a "mantra" or a personal code it would be..
- Work smarter, not harder
- Find a way to make every conversation, if it be email or a phone call, a warm one
- Develop trust
- Referrals, referrals, referrals

Good stuff Dan and Jared. I agree with both of you on the insights you shared. Two others that I have had in my head from my first days of working a desk;
- Work closest to the deal
- No one person is better than you and I together
My first manager stressed those daily and everyone took something different from them, but still recognize after all these years the foundation they have helped me build to achieve success. Cheers gentleman and continued success.
LOL - I just refreshed and saw the one you added Bill. True indeed.
Comment by Amber on February 23, 2012 at 1:42pm @ Bill - I learn LOTS every day!
Basically, I try to:
Be honest and upfront
Treat people with courtesy and professionalism
Know expectations of clients, candidates, and my company. If too far apart, I don't take it on.
Love this Dan.
My mantra, Whatever it is focus on it, know it, if you don't, learn it then go find it and know why it fits. or not.
Thanks for the comments guys... appreciate it
