Much has been written about ethics, lying, morals codes, legalities, etc...
When it comes down to it, we all have a personal code that we live by....
Yes, I understand the teachings regarding a Universal Moral Law or the Universal Code of Ethics presumed and shared by individuals like C.S. Lewis - and I appreciate those teachings...

I also know that I cannot sit in judgment of someone else and their behaviors as I understand them. Life is not that simple, my relationship with a greater being is not that simple. I try to live by the "Judge not, lest ye be judged..." sentiment. Not an easy task as I find myself in a scary place where the threat of depression, economical and psychological, loom overhead and consumes free time and open thoughts.

If I live my life the best way that I know how - how can anyone expect different from me? It is the best I know how. Recognizing that we all got here on a different path is necessary and universally "right."

Recognize humanity - it only costs me if I don't.

I agree Rayanne and I think so much judgment just blocks you from being able to receive the gifts that others are willing to share. It doesn't have to be one way to be right, people should know they don't have to defend their every choice along life's path. Our differences make it interesting; our willingness to accept that everyone has something to teach us is paramount. Listening to the thoughts and differences in others should only help us reflect on our own priorities and how we can change for the better.

Keeping an open mind is a conscious choice to continue to grow.

Right on Rayanne! I spend more time worrying about what I am doing than telling others what they should do.

Before getting into the recruitment side of things I headed up Competitive Intelligence for a Finance Broker. Now they are a scary bunch! On several occasions clients would pay us ridiculous sums of money to spy on their competitor. I soon realized that certain industry practices crossed over to the HR world where its a morally safer environment. Recruiting practices are very tame in comparison to the ugly side of Competitive Intelligence.

In hoping others see that I am doing the best I know how, I presume and should that others are doing the same - it is not my place to assume otherwise.

It has been a really long time since I read CS Lewis. Perhaps I need to. That being said, here is a dissenting opinion.

Judgment is a necessary part of social interaction. We constantly gauge ourselves against others. That comparison requires a judgment of the other's character. How do you know how to interact with people you have not met without making judgments based on what you see and hear?

What do you do if your best is not good enough? Let's say you take a wrong path. Do you not expect that your friends will let you know? Is it not their responsibility to offer their guidance and opinion if they think you have stepped off onto a dangerous path?

Our obligation as members of society is not to 'not judge' but to temper that judgment. Don't judge too harshly and offer forgiveness where appropriate if you have been slighted. Rather than not judging people, I prefer to continually refine my judgments. If you are a lying cheat, I do not want to do business with you. I NEED to have that judgment for self preservation.

I too, live my life the best way I know how. I will tell you what I believe and you are free to disagree with me. I encourage you to judge me and I will be the better for it.

William~
Thanks for your comments - we have so much to learn in this life and you just taught me another lesson. As long as it goes my way, I thank you for your judgment ;-)
