SHRM

Hi all, I have never been to SHRM before but now have the opportunity to (maybe) go. Is it worth it? I have heard that it is not the party atmosphere of say ERE but heck, they can't all be parties right? I'd love to hear thoughts on past events, who's going and what after hours events are going on. Thanks!

(PS Make them good so my hubby, who is on here now, will let me go)

I would go. It is a partnership. New beliefs and perceptions will only help you build your knowledge and only adds to the experiences.

Hello Maren,
I have not yet attended the SHRM events but I plan to go next year. My understanding is that they are not nearly as fun, are much more professional in format and in nature. I am sure there are still parties and events after the events, but they have a reputation of not having nearly as many after hours events that recruiting conferences have ( that may not be true, but it seems to be a bit more of a conservative atmoshpere where the recruiting conferences that I have attended have a very entreprenuerial and salesy atmosphere). If you decide to go, please provide a full write up to let us know the scoop!

Maren, I would go if you get the chance. Like with any conference there are good sessions and the not-so-good sessions, vendors, and yes parties too. The attendance crushes other conferences, and is great for networking too. I just wrote a recruiting blog post on conferences - looking back to my first nearly 10 years ago.

UPDATE: I will NOT be attending SHRM, because my summer is so crazy that I completely forgot I will have about seven houseguests that week. I might be able to catch some "before" events on the 22md (if there are any. . .??)
