The most reliable business laptops are the IBM Thinkpads, by Lenovo. The true workhorse of laptop computing. Service is excellent, too. Just go to Lenovo.com and browse around based on your price range.

You really can't go wrong though in your price range if you go with a brand you know.

Hi Bob,

I run cbiz on a Dell laptop, the Inspiron E1705, it was just under $1200 I think and has a nice big 17" screen, which I love. You don't need a ton of power to run cbiz though, I've had it on the smallest lamest old desktop and cheap laptop before I bought this one about a year ago, and knock wood, so far it's been great. The support is excellent too. I haven't had any issues yet, but did have a question and they were fast and friendly.

I'm on my brand new HP Pavilion dv5. It has the "N" wireless adapter which is the next generation of router (quicker, larger range) it has a giant hard drive, integrated webcam/microphone for Skype, etc. and is combined with a BluRay DVD if you can believe that!

Since I signed up for Verizon broadband and bought a laptop bag I got $150 off bringing the HP in at just over 1K.

It's nice. Looks good. Weighs 5.6lbs. Has a reasonbable battery life (Toshiba sucks) and believe it or not (since I'm reading the stickers on it as I type this!) this baby has a TV tuner so I can watch, pause, rewind and record live televsion on my notebood PC. (Service sold separately)

With computers and components especially, you get what you pay for. That's why Apples or Lenovos cost so much more than an Acer or other budget laptop. Even though I have an Apple, Jorge' I want your laptop!

If I start out on my home pc...and grow my data base....Is it easy to transer C-Biz and the data base to my laptop?? How portable is the database? Easy to transfer to another computer??

Hey Bob,

Yes, it's super easy, and they will walk you through it when you're ready. I had cbiz on a really old, low memory desktop and when I bought a new laptop, it was a breeze to download everything over.

Get a Macbook Pro. Don't use mac software? Using VMware Fusion, it can run Windows Vista or XP in a virtual session. I get all the benfits of both platforms. This was a monumental change for me...I switched from a Tosiba laptop. In fact, for 4 months I was traveling with both my mac and toshiba laptops. It was my security blanket. The reality is, business is a PC based world. Heck, my company develops Windows based software products, but I choose a mac as my personal machine.

What made me change (the final straw) is when I was on a flight and we were a few minutes away from taking off. The guy next to me powered on his mac, downloaded his email and shut down while my PC laptop was still booting up. Besides the mac, VMware fusion is about 89 bucks.
